    The Position

    Social Services Chiefs manage the overall design, analysis, development and evaluation of social services programs.

     

    Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.

     

    The Division Social Services (DSS) is currently recruiting for a permanent, full-time vacancy for Social Services Chief 3 for Program Operations Support and Targeted Outreach (POST). This position will be located in Carson City, Las Vegas, or Reno depending on the candidate chosen. Under general direction of the Deputy Administrator, the Social Services Chief 3 position has the responsibility for program policy development, project development and management, staff training, and policy adherence reviews. This position performs research, interprets federal and state laws, and participates in development of legislative proposals and presentations. This position performs administrative, supervisory, and managerial work in managing programs and related systems for public assistance programs and supervises managerial, senior professional and professional personnel. This position is responsible for the overall direction, management, design, and operation plan for the oversight of Quality Assurance, SNAP Outreach, Targeted Outreach Partnerships and Homeless to Housing. Additional responsibilities include implementation of newly approved legislation, community partner and tribal collaboration, compliance with open meeting laws, contract/budget management, State Plan compliance and the Disaster SNAP Program.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

     

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, health or social science, public or business administration or related field and five years of relevant professional experience which included directing social services or the operation of a program unit; coordinating program activities with officials and representatives of other agencies; interpretation, application and implementation of complex federal regulations and State laws; writing program policies, procedures, and reports; and conducting research and preparing recommendations. Two years of the required experience must have included supervision of staff at a paraprofessional level or above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
