    Salary:

    BA Step 1 $48,007 or MA Step 1 $50,670 per GITA contract

    Duties:

    We are seeking a passionate and dynamic high school special education teacher for our self-contained instructional program. This position will focus on functional academics, adaptive behavior skill development, and work-based learning skills.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    1. NYS certification in Students with Disabilities 9-12 or Students with Disabilities All Grades

    2. Evidence of academic success at undergraduate and/or graduate levels

    3. Strong written and oral communication skills

    4. Demonstrated strong work ethic and dedication to student success

    5. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

    6. Evidence of positive classroom management skills

    7. Evidence of ability to work productively and collaboratively with students and families

    8. Demonstrated initiative to form partnerships with outside agencies to support the transition of high school students to opportunities after high school

    9. Knowledge and understanding of the New York State Alternate Assessment

    10. Experience in developing IEPs

    Qualifications Desired:

    1. Experience in teaching secondary level functional academic programming

    2. Knowledge of ACCES-VR, OPWDD, and other agencies that assist with the high school transition

    3. Experience in developing work-based learning programs for students with disabilities

    4. Understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis and ability to assist in developing Behavior Intervention Plans

    5. Experience with facilitating peer buddy and Unified Sports programs

    6. Formal training in deescalation techniques preferred
