Purpose:
_The Senior Programmer plays a critical role within the hospital’s Information Systems department, leading the development, maintenance, and support of essential mainframe and financial systems. This position ensures the reliability and efficiency of healthcare IT operations, contributing directly to patient care through robust and secure technology solutions._
Responsibilities:
+ Evaluate, develop, and implement moderate to complex technical solutions to support hospital systems.
+ Maintain and enhance complex software code, ensuring long-term functionality and performance.
+ Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members on software maintenance and support.
+ Create and maintain detailed technical documentation for new and existing processes.
+ Execute production deployments and adhere to established change control procedures.
+ Identify and incorporate disaster recovery and business continuity considerations into programming efforts.
+ Manage and respond to complex data update requests and support tickets.
+ Lead projects by assigning tasks, tracking milestones, and ensuring timely completion.
+ Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders through clear written and verbal interactions.
+ Pursue continuous professional development and integrate feedback to improve performance and skills.
Shift: This position will work Monday-Friday, 7 AM - 3:30 PM. This position will require 24/7 on call support for Mainframe and financial systems. Once a year, you must travel to Philadelphia for 3 days to attend disaster recovery testing.
+ 5+ years experience in a programming language is preferred
+ Bachelor's degree OR Associate's degree and 2 years of experience is preferred
+ Preferred knowledge/experience with Mainframe, VSE, VM and HealthQuest
+ Highly driven and self-motivated to exceed expectations.
+ Ability to work independently and in a team based environment.
+ Effective in mentoring and leading less experienced team members.
+ Proficient in both oral and written communication.
+ Demonstrates thorough understanding of information technology fundamental tools and concepts of one of the information technology professional disciplines and applies that understanding to make independent practical contributions to IT work within a particular UPMC department or function.
+ Complete on-going training on-the-job, through courses, self-study, certifications and/or advanced degrees to maintain and enhance technical and business capabilities.
+ Additionally, this position may be required to maintain a standby status as part of a rotation within the team. This requires 24 hours per day, 7 days per week availability during the standby period. The frequency varies based upon the number of colleagues in the rotation.

+ Act 34 with renewal
