Patient Care Technician – ICU
Hours: Full-Time 36 hours per week
Schedule: Nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | Every other weekend & holiday required
Join our dedicated ICU team and make a meaningful impact every night. UPMC Williamsport is seeking a compassionate and skilled Patient Care Technician Specialist to support our Intensive Care Unit. This role is essential in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced, critical environment.
About the Role
As a Patient Care Technician Specialist, you’ll work closely with nurses and healthcare providers to assist with clinical and personal care tasks. You’ll monitor vital signs, support daily living activities, collect specimens, and help maintain a safe and clean environment. Based on department needs, you may also perform advanced clinical skills such as:
Basic arrhythmia monitoring
Complex wound care
12-lead EKGs
NG tube clamping and removal
Final job title will be determined based on your education, experience, and manager discretion.
Key Responsibilities
Provide compassionate care including bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, and repositioning patients
Perform point-of-care testing, vital signs, weights, I&O, and telemetry monitoring
Assist with specimen collection, simple dressings, and restraint application/removal
Perform advanced procedures such as IV and Foley catheter insertion/removal, phlebotomy, and straight catheterization
Transport monitored patients and support clerical functions as needed
Educate patients and families under RN direction
Support unit safety, equipment maintenance, and quality initiatives

+ High school diploma or GED.
+ Must also have either:
+ a) 2 years of general healthcare experience and meet requirements of Patient Care Technician - Senior title, OR
+ b) 1 year of experience (defined above) and enrollment in PT/OT/PA program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, or
+ c) 1 year of experience (defined above) and completion of a bachelors degree in a health sciences field.
+ Annual completion of a professional contribution to be determined after hire
+ Successful completion of patient care technician specialist class
+ Successful completion of eRecord training.
+ Nursing Student that has completed one clinical rotation preferred Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.
+ Successful completion of a basic arrhythmia course and annual competency required. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:** CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire ACLS preferred
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
+ Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
+ Act 33 with renewal
+ Act 34 with renewal
+ Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
