    Description

    The Blackboard Bistro, located on the SUNY Ulster Campus, is seeking a full-time Assistant Chef!

     

    Under the direction of the Food Service Manager, this position will assist staff members at the Bistro in the preparation and serving of good tasting, appealing meals for the Bistro and catering events.

     

    + Assists in the preparation of foods in accordance with the Ulster County Department of Health and Blackboard Bistro Food Service (The Arc Mid-Hudson) Policies, Menus and Recipes.

    + Assists with planning meals far enough ahead to minimize the need for food substitutions; when substitutions are necessary helps to serve food of equivalent nutritional value.

    + Help train and supervise individuals while maintaining established standards of sanitation, safety and food preparation and storage as set by the local and state health departments, including: storing food and supplies in appropriate areas; washing dishes; cleaning refrigerators, stove, bins, cupboards and other kitchen equipment and utensils; and, sweeping and mopping kitchen floors.

    + Substitutes for the Food Service Manager in her/his absence.

    + With the guidance of the Food Service Manager, helps modify menus and recipes and prepare foods to meet the needs of the Blackboard Bistro and Catering.

    + Helps deliver foods from the Blackboard Bistro to our customers.

    + Attends and participates in trainings, and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities.

    + Helps promote and market the Blackboard Bistro to increase daily sales as well as catered events

     

    HOURS: 40/Monday through Friday/7:00 am to 3:00 pm/must be flexible/may include some evenings and weekends as needed - follows SUNY Ulster school calendar

     

    STARTING SALARY: $ 19.20 to $ 22.37 per hour

    Minimum Requirements

    + Minimum of one year food service experience in service preparation and management desirable.

    + Demonstrated skills in preparing food in a nutritious, good tasting and appealing manner.

    + Effective oral and written communication skills commensurate with the responsibilities of the position are required

    + Acceptable NYS Driver’s License

    + High School Diploma/GED , with training in food service preferred (a commitment to secure continuing education related to employment with the Agency is required).
