Job Summary
A Postdoctoral position is available in the Sutton Laboratory in the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology at the University of Michigan (UM) Medical School to study altered synapse development in Neurodevelopmental disorders associated with altered chromatin regulation. The candidate will participate in multiple NIH-funded projects that explore disease mechanisms in rodent and human models.
The Sutton Lab is housed within the Michigan Neuroscience Institute( https://medicine.umich.edu/dept/michigan-neuroscience-institute ) in the Interdisciplinary Taubman Biomedical Sciences Research Building on UM's medical school campus, immediately adjacent to UM's central campus. The laboratory is closely linked with multiple basic science and clinical laboratories through active collaborations, which offers the potential for training in diverse sets of innovative research techniques. We are seeking candidates who will be able to conduct discovery-oriented research in this unique collaborative environment. Successful candidates will be able to use electrophysiology, neuroimaging, chromatin biochemistry, functional genomics/informatics, and human 2D and 3D neuron models to explore the roles of chromatin regulators in activity-dependent synapse development in the central nervous system. Candidates are expected to have familiarity with these approaches, but not necessarily extensive expertise. Experience in electrophysiology, however, is considered a particularly important strength..
The department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology (MIP) runs a structured professional development program for postdoctoral research fellows that features enhanced mentoring and an emphasis on development of key skills such as scientific writing, grant writing, and oral communication (see https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30929265/ ).This MIP Postdoctoral Scholars program has significant resources to promote professional development, skill-based workshops, and community networking events.
