Position is available to employees of the Associated C.O.L.T. Staff of the University of Maine and University of Maine at Machias from 07/28/2025 through 08/01/2025 and open to additional internal applicants thereafter.
The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) Community Education Assistant (CEA) CL3 will plan, deliver, and evaluate food and nutrition education programs in Cumberland County. The position is responsible for creating and maintaining community partnerships to enhance and promote EFNEP educational programs to adults with children, young adults, and youth aged 5 to 18 years who are experiencing food and nutrition insecurity. By educating and empowering individuals to make informed food choices and improve their overall well-being, EFNEP CEAs contribute to building stronger, healthier communities. Full-time, soft-money funded position, 40 hours per week, 5 days per week. Normal daily work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position pays $21.09/hour, or applicable transfer rate in accordance with the ACSUM collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications:
Required:
+ High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and four years of relevant experience in community nutrition education or working with food-insecure populations; a combination of post-secondary education and/or lived experience with nutrition insecurity may substitute for work experience.
+ Experience working with diverse audiences and supporting civil rights, affirmative action, and equal opportunity goals.
+ Strong communication skills, including oral, written, and electronic methods.
+ Experience in planning and delivering educational programs for adults and/or youth.
+ Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
+ Proficiency with computer applications, including Zoom, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
+ This position requires regular travel (within the State of Maine). Mileage is reimbursed at the current University rate. The selected individuals must be able to successfully meet this requirement with or without accommodation.
Preferred:
+ Experience collaborating with community organizations or agencies.
+ Experience facilitating and coordinating logistics for educational workshops or community programs.
+ Familiarity with food and nutrition assistance programs (e.g., SNAP, WIC, food banks, pantries) and public health organizations in Maine and Cumberland County.
+ Experience training, mentoring, or managing volunteers or student employees.
+ Experience using evaluation tools such as WebNEERS or ASA24.
+ With or without accommodation the ability to occasionally lift 35 pounds.
