    This is a temporary position with an expected duration of up to 6 months.

     

    Ensures timely receipt of discharged patient records into Health Information Management (HIM) Department. Organizes documents for scanning into the electronic medical record (EMR), scanning of documents into the EMR, and indexes documents to appropriate location within the EMR. Position performs quality oversight for the prepping, scanning and indexing of patient medical records into the EMR. Ensures accurate and complete information is retained/contained in the patient medical record. Performs all functions related to processing records in the EMR including but not limited to prepping, scanning, indexing, analysis and quality review of images.

Must embrace the Studer Philosophy and Principals by conducting him/herself in a professional manner. Will be held accountable to the following Studer Philosophies and Principles:

    Essential Functions

    • Retrieves discharged patient records from the patient areas.

    • Reconciles the discharged records to ensure that they are accounted for and follow up with the departments for any missing.

    • Ensures the accurate and timely management of patient health records, including prepping, indexing, and scanning into the EMR.

    • Indexes documents to the correct encounter and document type.

    • Performs quality checks before releasing the record into the EMR.

    • Review assigned analysis queue(s) daily and ensure timely processing of all assignments in the queues.

    • Analyzes records and assigns deficiencies in accordance with federal and state regulations as well as hospital rules and regulations.

    • Files paper records in appropriate location upon completion of quality check.

    • Maintain the confidentiality, safety, and security of patient health information.

    • Reports any system or equipment issues immediately to the operation’s manager to ensure timely resolution.

    • Assists others with responsibilities as needed.

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

     

    Non-Essential Functions/ Marginal Duties

     

    Maintains flexibility in acceptance of assignments to ensure adequate processing and coverage for departmental operations.

    Required Skills

    Minimum education:

    High school diploma or equivalent.

    Required Experience

    Work Experience: Medical terminology coursework preferred. Previous experience working medical records in an acute care or long term care institution Medical Record (Health Information Management) department or a large medical practice preferred.

     

    • Required License/ Certification/Registration: None. RHIT/RHIA preferred.
