    SUMMARY:

    The Sterile Processing Lead is responsible for overseeing high standards in decontamination, inspection, assembly, wrapping, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment used by Surgical Services and Ancillary Departments. The role supports operating room staff by organizing and maintaining surgical trays and equipment, ensuring accurate documentation of sterilization records and quality improvement data. This position also includes training new and current employees, promoting best practices, and serving as a positive representative of Rochester Regional Health with a strong commitment to customer service.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + Oversees the decontamination, inspection, and assembly of surgical instruments and trays, ensuring adherence to infection control standards, proper function checks, and established tray listings.

    + Operates and monitors sterilization equipment (Steam and Sterrad), utilizing internal, external, and biological indicators; interprets and documents sterilization parameters to ensure regulatory compliance and instrument safety.

    + Manages the distribution of sterile and non-sterile supplies, fills case carts, and ensures proper inventory control; maintains cleanliness and organization of workstations.

    + Supports department leadership by serving in-charge responsibilities when designated, assisting in orientation, and providing hands-on training and demonstration of revised procedures to Sterile Processing Technicians.

    + Collaborates with the Central Supply Manager in conducting in-service trainings, collecting quality improvement data, and evaluating team performance to promote process improvement and competency.

    + Upholds hospital and department standards by maintaining required certifications, attending meetings and in-services, and modeling Rochester Regional Health’s core values and behaviors.

    + Promotes a safe environment by identifying and reporting equipment malfunctions, adhering to safety protocols, and proactively addressing potential patient or environmental safety risks.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + 2–5 years of progressively responsible experience in Sterile Processing

    + Experience in an Operating Room setting preferred

    + Central Service Technician Certification required within 18 months of hire if not grandfathered in

    + Sterile Processing Certification required within 18 months if “Hard to Fill” clause applies

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    H - Heavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires constant walking, standing or squatting.

    $23.00 - $26.75

    The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
