The Desplan lab at NYU Biology is looking for a highly motivated and independent individual to work as a Postdoctoral Associate starting August 15, 2025.
This position is for a post-PhD trainee preparing for a career path as research scientist. The planned position will provide a transition to career independence through the development of professional skills; supervision by the faculty mentor incorporating individual development plan in support of training goals; and publication of research findings/scholarship during postdoc appointment period.
The specific project for this position in the Desplan lab is focused a major area of Drosophila neural development: How are stochastic choices made in sensory neuronal development coordinated with the deterministic generation of neuronal diversity in the synaptic targets of the sensory receptors. The project will require the use of a variety of cutting-edge techniques in the field of neural development, including but not limited to the use of confocal microscopy, immunofluorescence staining of proteins of interest, molecular biology, single-cell mRNA and open chromatin sequencing, analysis of brain connectomes and bioinformatics.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $58,500 - $65,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
The ideal candidates will hold a PhD, have multiple years of prior research experience using a model organism, and a track record of peer-reviewed publications. Prior experience with the technology and techniques already described will be welcome but not necessary.
