The Flight Safety and Reliability Data Scientist will play a pivotal role within GE Aerospace’s Flight Safety Organization (FSO), driving initiatives that enhance Flight Safety and GE Aerospace’s Safety Management System (SMS). This position focuses on designing and developing innovative digital tools to support proactive and preventative risk management, enable enterprise-wide monitoring of safety initiatives, and deliver productivity improvements through advanced visual management solutions.
Additionally, the role may involve leveraging generative AI technologies to expand GE Aerospace’s digital capabilities, ensuring cutting-edge solutions are integrated into safety processes. The Senior Data Manager will collaborate closely with the FSO team to streamline development efforts and operationalize digital processes, contributing to a safer and more efficient enterprise.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities:
+ Design and develop digital tools and dashboards with a focus on proactive and preventative safety aligned with Flight Safety and the GE Aerospace Safety Management System (SMS).
+ Manipulate data patterns and architectures to identify trends and drive actionable business outcomes.
+ Adapt and create digital tools to enhance and streamline GE Aerospace engineering processes.
+ Leverage expert-level skills with the Support Central tool suite to develop dashboards, forms, and interactive workflows.
+ Interface with GE Aerospace Digital Solutions (DES) and Digital Thread (DTE) teams as needed to ensure the continued servicing and enhancement of digital products.
+ Design, develop, and debug complex SQL queries and scripts to manage large-scale data needs for analytics and relational databases.
+ Build and maintain robust data pipelines to support analytics and operational needs.
+ Utilize programming languages such as Java and Python to develop new software tools and maintain existing ones in production.
+ Support the Flight Safety Organization (FSO) in strategic, multi-year planning for future development needs.
+ Stay informed of industry trends and best practices to improve products, processes, and services.

+ Apply a high level of judgment to make decisions and address complex tasks or challenges in areas such as operations, product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering.
+ Assess the quality of information provided, ask pertinent questions, and offer innovative solutions to problems outside of established parameters.
+ Construct and provide recommendations using multiple internal and external sources to inform decision-making.
Leadership and Communication:
+ Lead functional teams or projects with minimal resource requirements, risk, and complexity.
+ Communicate complex concepts effectively and influence others’ perspectives on key topics.
+ Guide team members to consider alternative viewpoints and approaches to problem-solving.
Required Qualifications:
+ Master's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 6 years of experience in Job Family Group(s)/Function(s).
+ Minimum of 5 years of experience within data analytics
Desired Characteristics:
+ In-depth knowledge of and development of GE digital visual management tools; examples include SharePoint, Spotfire, Data Lake, Support Central, and Smartsheet.
+ Exposure and demonstrated ability to think from an Engineering systems perspective
+ Expertise in creating, beta testing, deploying and maintaining data lake connected projects using Alation, Dataiku, Spotfire and Python and potentially other software tools.
+ Background and working knowledge in generative artificial intelligence (AI).
+ Expert understanding and handling of various data types and sources
+ Good understanding of big data architecture and data modelling.
+ Understanding of Standard Work and Lean Principles
+ Background in: SQL queries and scripts, Support Central, Databases, including NOSQL, Graph, column/row store, analytics vs. relational Cloud native offerings on AWS, AZURE or CCP
+ Industry-awareness of how airframers and other OEMs are utilizing data science tools and analytics to drive preventative and proactive flight safety.
+ Programming languages: JAVA, PYTHON, Spark, PYTHON SQL, GO etc.
+ Working knowledge of SMS and safety processes
+ General awareness and/or knowledge of the greater GE Aerospace Business, including
+ Business-level, Quality, and Engineering processes
+ Fleet Support
+ Production and repair/overhaul
+ Awareness of GE Aerospace-approved digital applications, as well as any associated obsolescence issues
+ Strong oral and written communication skills
+ Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
+ Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
+ Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects
+ Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs
+ Established project management skills
