The faculty of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a 9-month, full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 16, 2026. We are seeking a scholar with a well-defined interdisciplinary research agenda that examines the diverse linguistic repertoires, literary traditions, histories, and cultural expressions of Spanish-speaking communities in the US South, with an emphasis on (im)migrant narratives and cultural practices shaped by Latin American, Caribbean, and Indigenous heritages. We welcome applicants whose work addresses contemporary topics related to migration, borderlands, Spanish as a heritage language in the United States, and the cultural impact of Hispanic immigrants in the US South.

Advertised Minimum Qualifications :
+ The position requires that candidates hold a Ph.D. in Spanish or a related field by August 16, 2026.
+ Additionally, they should have at least four semesters of experience teaching at the college level, either as the instructor of record or as a graduate teaching assistant.
+ Candidates must also possess a native or near-native command of both Spanish and English.
+ The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to both the graduate and undergraduate programs in Spanish, as well as to the Southern Studies minor.
+ The tenure home will be the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures. Teaching responsibilities will include two courses per semester, covering a diverse range of undergraduate and graduate courses in both Spanish and English.
