    Position Summary

    The Assistant Professor (Series II) & Chair of Graduate Education Nursing Program at MSM provides strategic leadership for the development and administration of graduate nursing education. This multifaceted role encompasses curriculum oversight, faculty leadership, student engagement, and ensures rigorous compliance with accreditation and institutional standards.

     

    The successful candidate will be an innovative educator with expertise in learner-centered, competency-based education and experiential adult learning pedagogies. Reporting directly to the Senior Associate Dean and Chief of Clinical & Academic Education, the Chair will collaborate closely with senior leadership to deliver curricular excellence that advances MSM’s Graduate Education Nursing vision, mission, and core values. This position serves as a catalyst for advancing MSM’s institutional mission to eliminate health disparities through transformative educational initiatives.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Earned doctoral degree ( DNP , PhD, or EdD) from a regionally accredited institution of higher education

    • Active, unencumbered Georgia RN license and midwifery or APRN license

    • Current national certification in nursing-related APRN discipline ( CNM , PMHNP , or AGNP preferred)

    • Holds or is eligible for DEA licensure

    • Strong clinical background with a minimum of five years full-time equivalent clinical experience

    • Experience in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development and program administration

     

    Essential Skills & Certifications

     

    • Current Basic Life Support ( BLS ) and Healthcare Provider certification

    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support ( ACLS ) certification recommended

    • Board Certification within RN or APRN discipline

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in nursing education, particularly at the graduate level and/or master’s level RN entry programs (highly desirable)

    Description of Job Duty

    Position Structure

    This is a full-time, 12-month faculty appointment within the Division of Graduate Education Nursing. The position encompasses comprehensive responsibilities in teaching, clinical practice, institutional service, and scholarly activities. MSM utilizes time and effort certification to document and track all professional faculty contributions.

     

    This is an in-person position, not hybrid.

     

    Teaching Load

     

    As a full-time faculty member, the Chair maintains a reduced teaching commitment of 50%, equivalent to two courses per semester (Fall and Spring), compared to the standard faculty expectation.

    Leadership Responsibilities

    The Chair provides comprehensive oversight of all educational components, including didactic instruction, clinical experiences, and simulation-based learning environments. Additionally, the

     

    Chair monitors and evaluates faculty performance across all academic metrics: teaching excellence, clinical practice, institutional service, and scholarly productivity, ensuring continuous improvement and professional development opportunities.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Academic Leadership & Curriculum Management

     

    • Lead curriculum development, implementation, and continuous evaluation for graduate nursing education programs

    • Develop and revise curriculum to ensure student training and skill development align with current employer needs and industry standards

    • Prepare course schedules each semester and oversee annual syllabi updates

    • Assist in textbook adoption and curricular resource selection for Dean approval

    • Maintain comprehensive gap analysis review processes for admitted students

     

    Faculty Leadership & Development

     

    • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate program directors, faculty, and staff within the program

    • Recruit, screen, and facilitate employment of qualified faculty as needed

    • Assign faculty workloads and submit documentation for overloads and adjunct compensation to the Dean

    • Demonstrate instructional excellence and encourage ongoing professional development

    • Assist faculty in resolving grade appeals and addressing informal and formal complaints

     

    Student Success & Engagement

     

    • Oversee comprehensive student recruitment, retention, and success initiatives

    • Assist in student advisement, remediation, and registration processes

    • Manage classrooms, laboratories, and facilities to optimize student learning environments

    • Coordinate advisory committee membership and schedule regular committee meetings

     

    Compliance & Accreditation

     

    • Ensure full compliance with accreditation standards and institutional policies

    • Secure and maintain ongoing program approval from state accreditors ( SACSCOC ) and the Georgia Board of Nursing ( GBON )

    • Maintain accreditation from relevant accrediting bodies ( ACME , CCNE )

    • Develop and maintain program-specific policies that meet accreditation and Board of Nursing standards

    • Conduct comprehensive annual Institutional Effectiveness processes, including assessment, planning, data collection, analysis, evaluation, and documentation

     

    Administrative & Financial Management

     

    • Develop annual department budget requests with faculty input

    • Manage approved department budgets with appropriate documentation and accountability

    • Ensure all department information (brochures, website, catalog, handbook) remains current and consistent

     

    Strategic Planning & Growth

     

    • Engage in strategic planning initiatives to enhance program growth and community impact

    • Collaborate in institutional efforts to advance health equity and serve underserved populations

     

    Knowledge & Expertise

     

    • Current knowledge of CNM and/or NP practice and related professional issues

    • Current knowledge of institutional and programmatic accreditation requirements for nurse-midwifery, nurse practitioner, and RN educational programs

    • Demonstrated commitment to health equity and serving underserved populations

    • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

    It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are encouraged to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment. If employment will commence during Flu Season, MSM requires all individuals to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless granted an exemption.
