    Description of Work Unit

    The goal of the University Honors Program ( UHP ) is to provide an enriched educational program of study for academically talented and motivated students at Colorado State University. Honors students benefit from small, discussion-based seminars taught by some of the University’s finest faculty members, personalized academic advising, priority enrollment, opportunities for leadership, research and community service, and special scholarships. Many Honors students choose to live in one of our Residential Learning Communities.

    Position Summary

    The Honors Program at Colorado State University seeks applications from qualified individuals interested in facilitating HONR 399: Pre-Thesis. This is a one-credit, primarily online and asynchronous course that supports students in the early stages of their Honors Thesis process. There may be a few pre-arranged in-person meeting dates. The Honors Thesis is an enriching, culminating experience in which students conduct original research, create an end product, and present their findings to a broader audience. While the bulk of thesis work is completed in the HONR 499: Thesis course, the foundation is laid in HONR 399. In this preparatory course, students:

     

    + Identify and refine a thesis topic

    + Begin foundational research

    + Define appropriate research methods or creative approaches

    + Select and confirm a faculty Thesis Committee

     

    The course includes required assignments and recommended activities that foster critical thinking, methodological awareness, and scholarly independence. Instructors serve as mentors, guiding students as they navigate research design and proposal development within their chosen disciplines.

    Required Job Qualifications

    + Master’s degree (or equivalent industry experience) in a relevant academic discipline or professional field.

    + Experience conducting or supervising academic research and/or creative scholarship.

    + Demonstrated ability to mentor or advise undergraduate students.

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    + Ability to facilitate asynchronous learning environments.

    Preferred Job Qualifications

    + Familiarity with undergraduate research and the Honors thesis process.

    + Experience teaching or mentoring in interdisciplinary contexts.

    + A record of applied, creative, or community-engaged scholarship.

    + Interest in supporting student development in areas such as critical thinking, proposal writing, and research design.
