The laboratory uses cell culture and animal models to study mechanisms that enable organisms to adapt to energy and metabolic stresses (physical exercise, diet). We are seeking a **_Research Specialist_** who will conduct scientific research, manage mouse colonies and assist in laboratory organization. He/she will have a working understanding of the context and implications of the research in order to apply and interpret theoretical knowledge necessary to conduct research. The range of duties includes, but is not limited to experimental design, developing methodology, conducting procedures, modifying procedures as needed, data collection and analysis, mouse colony management and laboratory organization.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
+ One year laboratory experience performing relevant techniques.
+ Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Assist in research projects with experimentation, using cell and molecular biology techniques (tissue culture; DNA, RNA and protein isolation; RT-PCR and westerns; immunostaining), and working with mice (assessment of metabolism and/or exercise capacity)
+ Maintain mouse colonies, including breeding and genotyping.
+ Exercise independent judgment while participating in the planning of experiments, evaluation/interpretation of results, and organization of data.
+ Help develop and carryout new techniques for various studies ongoing in the lab.
+ Participate in the organization and operation of the laboratory.
+ He/she will perform general lab maintenance duties, including monitoring of inventory levels, ordering and management of supplies and reagents of the lab, and maintenance of records and electronic databases.
+ She/he will prepare solutions and reagents, following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
+ Oversee and assure laboratory compliance with regulatory requirements and JHU standards, policies and procedures.
+ Candidates should be motivated, highly organized, have good communication and time management skills, and work effectively in a team setting. A willingness to learn new skills is appreciated.

Starting Salary Range: $17.11 - $29.90 HRLY ($42,500 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
