We are seeking a **_CCSL Program Specialist_** who will play a vital role in supporting the Charm City STEM League mentoring program for Baltimore City students in grades 3-12. The CCSL Program Specialist will foster successful mentor-mentee relationships, oversee student staff, and manage key projects with minimal oversight. This position involves coaching Head Mentors, facilitating staff meetings, and cultivating effective partnerships with schools. The CCSL Program Specialist will work closely with both CCSL volunteers and student employees while maintaining open communication with partner site coaches and community partners.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
_Mentor Support & Development_
+ Coach and guide undergraduate and graduate student Head Mentors through their roles, offering strategies to enhance mentoring effectiveness.
+ Plan, facilitate, and provide support at weekly staff meetings and monthly professional development (PD) sessions.
+ Regularly observe Head Mentors at partner school sites during active mentoring sessions, providing constructive feedback to improve mentor performance and student engagement.
_Project Management_
+ Collaborate with student employees on designated projects, providing guidance and oversight with minimal supervision.
+ Monitor weekly session update forms to track mentor and student progress, identify program trends, and address any potential issues proactively.
_Partnership Oversight_
+ Maintain effective communication with partner site coaches via email, Zoom, and/or during site observations
+ Ensure that the program meets its expectations and commitments within the partner school community
_Student Employee & Volunteer Management_
+ Provide day-to-day support and mentorship for 1-2 student intern employees (direct report), while offering guidance and support to other student staff as needed
+ Assist with time sheet collection and approval for student employees
+ Assist with the tracking of volunteer hours for CCSL programming
_Overall Program Support_
+ Foster a collaborative and supportive environment among all CCSL members.
+ Provide support for outreach activities and internal events, assist with the preparation of materials, set-up and breakdown, and staff events.
+ Assist in the organization and facilitation of training sessions and events to promote mentor development and mentor engagement.
+ Assist with data entry, report production, and communications.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Technical qualifications and specialized certifications
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact positively and effectively with diverse populations.
+ Highly proficient with Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
+ Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Trello, Asana).
+ Experience with data tracking and analysis tools.
_The core technical skills listed are most essential; additional technical skills may be required based on specific division or department needs._
Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor's Degree.
+ At least 3 years of directly related, successful secondary teaching experience teaching in transformation/turnaround or persistently low-performing context.
+ Curriculum development experience is preferred.
+ The ability to work independently following established formats.
+ Demonstrated ability to lead workshops.
+ Preferred: Master's degree and teacher certification preferred.
+ Prior experience working in urban schools is highly desirable.
+ Prior experience working in a leadership capacity among teachers and other site-based staff is desirable.
+ Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Education, STEM field, or a related discipline.
+ Master's degree and teacher certification preferred.
+ Experience working within K-12 educational settings, preferably with tutoring, mentoring or internship programs.
+ Prior experience in a mentoring or coaching capacity with demonstrated success in supporting educators and students.
+ Curriculum development experience is preferred.
