JobSummary: Barnes & Noble is seeking a self-starting Technical IT Project Manager with experience managing multiple parallel technology projects for Barnes & Noble. In this high-impact, high-visibility role, you'll be instrumental in driving the successful delivery of critical IT initiatives across our enterprise. This isn't just about managing projects; it's about leading the charge on transformative technology solutions that directly impact our business operations.
You'll drive key projects in areas like data center migrations, network overhauls and virtualization initiatives. We're looking for a leader who can confidently speak the language of engineers while also clearly communicating project status, risks and benefits to non-technical audiences.
This role is a hybrid position based out of either our Monroe, NJ distribution center or our NYC, NY office located across from Union Square.
An employee in this position can expect an annual starting rate between $125,000 - $150,000 depending on experience, seniority, geographic locations, and other factors permitted by law.

WhatYouDo:
• Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex IT infrastructure projects, with a focus on data center, networking, virtualization, and database technologies.
• Bridge the gap between technical and non-technical teams, translating business requirements into actionable technical plans and communicating technical risks and progress to senior leadership.
• Collaborate with engineers and architects to define project scope, technical requirements, and realistic timelines.
• Actively manage project plans, budgets, and resource allocation, using a blended Waterfall/Agile ("WAgile") methodology
• Proactively identify and mitigate project risks and dependencies, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and prepared.
• Conduct effective and engaging meetings, including retrospectives, to drive project momentum and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for internal teams and external vendors, ensuring clear communication and accountability.
• Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including budgets, scopes, schedules, and communication plans.
Knowledge&Experience:
• Minimum of three (3) years of IT Project Management, with a proven track record of managing infrastructure-focused projects.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g. Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Business) or relevant experience.
• Deep practical understanding of IT infrastructure. You should be able to articulate the fundamentals of server, storage, virtualization, networking and data center technologies.
• Experience with data center migrations, infrastructure modernization, and system consolidation projects is essential.
• Familiarity with foundational networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, load balancers, routing, and switching).
• Working knowledge of virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and database technologies (e.g., SQL, Oracle).
• Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects with competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Expert-level communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences.
• Experience with both Agile and Waterfall methodologies and a flexible approach to project management.
• While PMP or Scrum certification is a plus, practical experience and technical acumen are necessary.
