Nurse Practitioner/Phys Assistant - Spine Division

Job Summary:
+ Greet, receive and handle patients in a courteous, professional manner.
+ Promote favorable patient relations.
+ Conduct comprehensive or episodic health history and physical assessment and pre-procedure workups of patients with acute or chronic orthopedic health problems.
+ Initiate and implement an individualized nursing and medical plan of care in collaboration with physicians, nurses and appropriate other health care professionals.
+ Initiate appropriate diagnostic, therapeutic, medical and nursing actions in compliance with approved protocols in conjunction with the physician of record.
+ Provide follow-up care, including acute and routine examinations, based on chief complaint.
+ Assess progress, identify problems, initiate preventative measures recognize emergent problems, initiate proper care maintaining contact with physician of record.
+ Prescribe and regulate medication per physician consultation or protocols.
+ Screen patient problem calls in office.
+ Perform and assist with orthopedic procedures, if needed or applicable.
+ Recognize normal and abnormal laboratory and radiological findings.
+ Document and maintain clinical activities in the respective patients chart.
+ Develop, implement and evaluate comprehensive patient education programs that assure quality and appropriateness of care.
+ Provide patient and family counseling and reassurance in regard to psychological and/or psychosocial considerations.
+ Obtain written consents if indicated for surgical procedures.
+ Provide for continuity of care between office visits and between inpatient and outpatient settings.
+ Meet regularly with physicians; work collaboratively to affect programmatic change and develop protocols.
+ Participate in quality assessment and improvement activities. Identify important aspects of care and assure findings are used to improve practice and operations.
+ Act as a resource and teacher for other members of the health care team. Share knowledge and expertise with staff through discussion and participate in education programs, attendance at regional and national conference, as appropriate.
+ Participate in professional organizations in orthopedics and nursing in general.
+ Identify own professional strengths and areas of growth and demonstrate professional development through formal and informal learning experiences.
+ Maintain knowledge of current trends and practices in health care and nursing.
Demonstrate professional effectiveness through efficient time management and organization of work.
Minimum Qualifications:
NYS licensed/registered NP or PA required (NYS NP specialty area of certification must be consistent with practice). Must have NPI number and be Medicare Enrolled with Medicare Identification Number (or PTAN) OR be eligible for Medicare Enrollment within 6 months of hire (eligibility criteria for NP requires National Certification through AANP or ANCC, and Master's Degree) (eligibility criteria for PA requires graduation from an accredited PA program and National Certification through NCCPA). Initial certification must be present or obtained within 6 months of hire. Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated competence in the field of Orthopedic Spine Surgery.
Demonstrated competence in interpersonal and interprofessional relations.
Demonstrated competence in crisis situations.
Demonstrated competence in acute care patient management.
Demonstrated competence in teaching and counseling patients, families, nursing personnel, and appropriate others.
Demonstrated commitment to collaboration with the physician to individualize and enhance patient care

Work Days:
Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (varies)

L5: $92,000 - $147,200
Please note the salary information shown is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as internal equity, market and business considerations. The salary range depicted is based on full time, 1.0 FTE and would be prorated accordingly for less than 1.0 FTE.
