Required Skills:

Software Engineer Responsibilities:

1. Help build new, innovative hardware and software that radically redefine the way people work, play and connect.

2. Help lead and set direction in how meta reality labs develops its future capabilities to deliver best-in-class VR devices.

3. Develop APIS in the system-level framework layer that allow other layers of the stack to implement compelling and performant use cases.

4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams of Partners, Product Managers and Engineers to build an end-to-end solution.

5. Work with Application and Platform teams to debug functional, performance and stability issues across the stack.

6. Build on OS internals.

7. Set technical direction for significant improvements.

8. Uplift coding and design skills on the team through reviews and introduction of best practices.

9. Model behaviors through clean readable code, upfront debug-ability and testability when implementing complex components.

10. Work closely with Product Management, Application Software Engineers and Partners to understand requirements, specify interfaces for new software frameworks, and enhance existing frameworks.

11. Participate in design reviews and code reviews for the team.

Minimum Qualifications:

12. Requires a Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field and 3 years of work experience in the job offered or in a computer-related occupation

13. Requires 3 years of experience in the following:

14. 1. Software development with a focus on Android or embedded systems

15. 2. Writing and debugging code in Java and Kotlin

16. 3. Android Software Development Kit (SDK) and Native Development Kit (NDK) for building applications and system components

17. 4. Working with AOSP (Android Open Source Project), including building custom ROMs, modifying system components, and integrating third-party features

18. 5. C/C++ Programming: C/C++ for system-level programming and performance-critical code

19. 6. Linux kernel architecture

20. 7. Memory management techniques and optimization strategies to ensure efficient performance of applications

21. 8. Multithreading and Concurrency: Ability to design and implement multithreaded applications, ensuring proper synchronization and resource management

22. 9. Inter-process Communication (IPC): Knowledge of IPC mechanisms, such as Binder, for communication between system components and applications

23. 10. Security best practices and privacy considerations in VR environments, including permission handling and data protection

24. 11. Debugging tools such as GDB, adb, and logcat to identify and resolve issues in system and application code

25. 12. Automated testing frameworks like JUnit or Espresso for ensuring code quality and reliability

26. 13. Profiling tools to identify performance bottlenecks and optimize system and application performance

$218,577/year to $240,240/year + bonus + equity + benefits
