    Budget Title: Instructional Support Technician (SL-3)

     

    Salary: $58,000 - $68,000

     

    The electrical specialist will serve as a key technical resource with the Facilities Management Department, supporting the design, troubleshooting, maintenance and preventive care of electrical and electronic systems throughout the campus. The position plays a critical role in supporting and maintaining Direct Digital Controls (DDC) systems, Variable Speed Drives (VSD), motor control centers, electrical motors, and related HVAC control infrastructure.

    Responsibilities of the successful candidate will include, but not be limited to:

    + Perform work assigned by the Energy Manager.

    + Work closely with HVAC staff to identify solutions to issues associated with electrical or electronic components of common HVAC systems such as but not limited to: air handling units, heating, cooling and hydronic systems.

    + Support the University's Instrument and Control Specialist to maintain proper functionality of, and diagnosing power and control problems with approximately 1000 variable speed drives on campus that are powered at either 480V or 208V AC.

    + Working with capital project coordinators and Facilities Design Team on new construction and major building renovation projects to ensure that all electrical HVAC related submittals conform to the campus standards.

    + Participate in project start-up training to understand the proper functionality of various electrical devices such as but not limited to, VSDs controlled by the Building Automation System (BAS) or Energy Management System (EMS).

     

    The successful candidate will be a proactive professional with effective communication and interpersonal skills; who possess the ability to maintain collaborative relationships and adapt to change while handling multiple tasks simultaneously.

     

    Onsite, daily site presence is expected. Due to the nature of the work, this position may require a non-standard work schedule with the ability to respond to off-hour emergencies.

     

    This is a 100% salaried professional position, United University Professions represented with annual renewal requirements; and is eligible for an excellent NYS benefits package.

    Job Requirements:

    + Associate's Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field

    + Minimum (2) years of experience in diagnosis of electrical and electronic components related to automation systems or building automation systems

    + Ability to comprehend, follow and draft electrical/electronic wiring diagrams and schematics of typical building automation control devices

    + Knowledge and understanding of 3-phase motors and motor control circuits

    + Ability to read and understand instruction manuals of electrical components and devices related to building HVAC systems

    + Ability to utilize hand-held electrical diagnostic / testing tools such as digital multimeter and oscilloscope

    + Understanding of building automation systems

    + Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project)

    + Ability to learn online project management platforms

    + Skilled in email communication, file sharing, and coordinating schedules using online calendar tools

    + Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to be able to effectively communicate complex ideas or situations and appropriately represent Facilities Management when meeting with customers, consultants and other members of the Campus community

    + Effective organizational skills

    + Ability to adapt to changing priorities and multiple tasks simultaneously

    + Valid Driver's license to operate a vehicle in New York State

    Preferred:

    + Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering Technology, Business, or related field

    + Experience in programming and troubleshooting variable speed drives

    + Familiarity with variable speed drive programming and diagnostics

    + Experience with electrical troubleshooting related to all components of HVAC

    + Experience working in higher education or multi-building facilities

    + Experience with Siemens building automation system

    + NFPA 70E Arc Flash Electrical Safety Training within the last five years
