    Koniag Data Solutions (KDS), a Koniag Government Services (KGS) company, is seeking a skilled Software Assurance Analyst to join our team supporting a Cyber Security project with the Marketing and Regulatory Programs (MRP) of the USDA. The ideal candidate will establish and maintain a comprehensive software evaluation laboratory, conduct thorough software assessments, and provide certification recommendations to ensure all software meets cybersecurity and operational requirements before deployment. This position requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with multiple stakeholders.

    Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:

    The Software Assurance Analyst will be responsible for evaluating, testing, and certifying software for use within the MRP environment. Principal responsibilities include:

     

    + Identify, recommend, and procure appropriate devices and equipment for software evaluation, including laptops, desktops, mobile devices, and virtual environments

    + Build out and maintain a fully functional IT laboratory environment, including installation and configuration of all testing tools and evaluation software

    + Conduct comprehensive software assessments within specified timeframes

    + Provide detailed risk score results to the Cyber team to support software certification decisions

    + Deliver continuous support for the laboratory environment, maintaining all devices, equipment, tools, and software

    + Evaluate enterprise applications requiring end-user clients/software to ensure compatibility with current operating systems and prevent disruption to existing capabilities

    + Identify undisclosed artificial intelligence (AI) integrations in commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software that may not have been communicated to MRP or approved by OCIO

    + Collaborate with the Data and Analytics Directorate to assess AI software requested by APHIS/AMS programs and MRP-ITD directorates

    + Maintain partnership with the Customer Experience Center (CEC) to access latest OS/middleware patches and OS images in use across the agency

    + Coordinate with CEC to add newly approved MRP software to the OCIO Software Center

    + Document all evaluation procedures, findings, and recommendations in clear, comprehensive reports

    Requirements:

    _Education:_

    + Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related technical field

    _Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:_

    + 3+ years of experience in software testing, evaluation, or quality assurance

    + 2+ years of experience with cybersecurity concepts and software risk assessment methodologies

    + Experience setting up and maintaining IT laboratory environments

    + Proficiency in evaluating software across multiple platforms (Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android)

    + Knowledge of virtualization technologies and virtual environment management

    + Understanding of cybersecurity principles, threat modeling, and risk assessment methodologies

    + Experience with software testing tools and frameworks

    + Ability to identify and analyze artificial intelligence components within software applications

    + Strong analytical skills with attention to detail

    + Excellent documentation and technical writing abilities

    + Effective communication skills for explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

    + Experience with OS imaging and deployment processes

    + Knowledge of federal government IT security requirements

    + Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet assessment deadlines

    + Proficiency with vulnerability scanning tools and software assessment frameworks

    Desired Skills and Competencies:

    + Experience working in federal government IT environments

    + Familiarity with FISMA, NIST frameworks, and other federal security standards

    + Certifications such as CISSP, CEH, Security+, or similar credentials

    + Experience with laboratory information management systems

    + Knowledge of AI/ML technologies and their security implications

    + Experience with DevSecOps practices and tools

    + Understanding of Section 508 compliance requirements

    + Previous experience supporting USDA or similar agricultural/regulatory agencies

    + Knowledge of procurement processes for IT equipment and software
