    Now Hiring: Diesel Mechanic

    **Location:** First Student – Anniston City Schools, AL

    **Schedule:** Full-Time | Monday–Friday

    **Starting Pay:** $25.00/hour (based on experience and qualifications)

    **First Student is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic** to join our maintenance team in Anniston, Alabama. In this role, you’ll help ensure the safety and reliability of our school bus fleet serving the Anniston City School District.

    **Note:** This is a diesel-specific position. Applicants must have prior diesel mechanic experience and be 21 years of age or older due to CDL requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Perform routine maintenance and mechanical repairs on diesel-powered school buses

    + Diagnose and service brake systems, suspensions, drivetrains, transmissions, and electrical components

    + Complete work orders accurately and in a timely manner

    + Provide mobile/emergency repair support when needed

    + Ensure all work complies with DOT and safety regulations

    Required Qualifications

    Education & Certifications

    + High school diploma or GED preferred

    + Technical or vocational certification in vehicle repair (preferred)

    + Class B CDL with passenger endorsement, or willingness to obtain within 3 months (training and costs covered)

    + ASE certification preferred; must be willing to participate in ASE testing program (minimum 6 ASE certifications within 6 months)

    + State inspection license (if applicable)

    Experience & Skills

    + 5+ years of diesel or automotive repair experience preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

    + Strong mechanical aptitude and diagnostic skills

    + Familiarity with DOT regulations and safety standards

    + Valid driver’s license

    + Strong problem-solving and communication skills

    + Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    + Must maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment

    + Must have and maintain an adequate set of personal mechanic tools

    Physical Requirements and Work Environment

    + Shop environment with exposure to dust, dirt, grease, and all weather conditions

    + Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds

    + Ability to work in crouched or prone positions underneath vehicles
