    Vice President, Claims Data Science & AI

     

    The Hartford is hiring a Vice President to lead the Claims Data Science organization. This role is pivotal in transforming the Claims customer journey by aligning AI capabilities with the Claims strategy, enabling enhanced claim outcomes, process and experience. This leader will oversee a mature portfolio of production solutions and develop new Machine Learning, Generative AI and Agentic AI solutions.

     

    This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT , Lake Mary, FL or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week. Candidates must be eligible to work in the US without company sponsorship.

     

    Specific responsibilities include

     

    + Develop and oversee a highly productive Data Science organization to develop, test, and maintain robust AI capabilities across the claim lifecycle, including routing work to the appropriate resources, expediting handling, and enhancing decision making.

    + Collaborate with business leaders and partners to understand their short and long-term goals. Lead the development, alignment and execution on the AI strategy and multi-year roadmap to meet those goals.

    + Identify modern AI and data capabilities to achieve business priorities and collaborate with technology, data and business partners to embed these capabilities within end-user technology and business processes.

    + Manage the processes used to develop and enhance models, deeply embedded in the scaled agile framework of the Claims business unit.

    + Serve as a member of Claim extended senior leadership team and provide thought leadership inside and outside the data science and analytics space.

    + Hire, train and develop staff and effectively calibrate the approach to staffing, including budget management.

    + Partner with technology, data, AI platform, AI/MLOps and Architecture teams to influence technology integration, data and platform strategy, tooling, standard work and reusable capabilities.

    + Develop knowledge of The Hartford's formal and informal structures, business processes, and data sources. Stay current on industry trends as well as state-of-the-art data, analytic, modeling and AI techniques.

    + Applies quantitative skills to solve business issues and communicates results to appropriate business area.

    Qualifications

    + Bachelors Degree (Master's or Ph.D a plus) in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Quantitative Economics or other similar analytical field.

    + 10+ years of relevant experience in Data Science or AI function in Insurance, Financial Services or related field.

    + 8+ years directing a technical team, setting priorities and plans to meet business goals and objectives.

    + Subject matter expertise required in Machine Learning, Generative AI, Agentic AI, and model lifecycle management.

    + Proficiency in responsible AI practices, model risk management, governance frameworks, regulations.

    + Strong strategic thinking and exceptional analytical capability, along with business acumen to translate complex technical topics into business solutions.

    + Exceptional verbal/written communication skills; Must be able to communicate effectively at all levels across the organization.

    + Demonstrated track record of executing change to core business processes through the innovative use of quantitative techniques.

    + Advanced negotiating, influencing, and conflict resolution skills at all organizational levels, builds effective relationships with internal partners.

    + Innovative and seeks new and creative ways to approach analytical exercises and development projects.

    + Results-oriented with a sense of urgency and accountability for business issues.

     

    Compensation

     

    The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

     

    $225,600 - $338,400
