    Salary: Salary Depends on Experience (DOE), starting at $90,000

     

    Primary Duties: The Energy and Natural Resources Division is looking for a Deputy Attorney General (DAG) to advise the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). This position provides legal services regarding the drafting, promulgation, interpretation, and application of state and federal statutes, regulations and other law and policies relevant to DEQ. This position provides representation to DEQ in administrative and civil actions, and focuses on implementation and enforcement of the Clean Air Act.

    Essential Functions:

    + Appears before administrative bodies, state and federal district courts and courts of appeals, including the Idaho Supreme Court.

    + Engages with third parties and their counsel, both in-person and virtually.

    + Drafts clear and accurate analysis of complex facts based upon thorough legal research.

    + Utilizes personal computer technology, sometimes for prolonged periods of time, to perform research and draft memoranda to address client needs.

    + Receives and responds timely to client and supervising attorney requests.

    + Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Admission to the Idaho State Bar and a member in good standing.

    + At least two years of relevant legal and technical work experience or coursework.

    + Experience in civil litigation procedure and practice, including pleadings, discovery, dispositive motions, trial, post-trial motions, appeals.

    + Knowledge of state contract terms, contract review and application, and drafting.

    + Exceptional public speaking, computer, writing, editing, telephone, and client management skills.

    + Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.

    + Strong computer skills and effective use of Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Five or more years of litigation experience.

    + Mediation and negotiation skills.

    + Interpreting and applying laws, regulations, and policies.

    + Researching and preparing reports and recommendations.
