    Job Summary

    Our overarching goal is to study how kidney cells respond to injury and translate our findings into new therapies to help patients suffering from kidney injury. Our lab uses a variety of techniques, including mouse models, cell culture, deep learning, engineered model systems, and molecular biology. Our current work focuses on identifying factors that make the kidney vulnerable to injury, understanding the molecular and genetic mechanisms that drive successful regeneration.

     

    The primary focus of this position will be to manage our animal colony and assist with animal models of kidney injury. The successful applicant will join an enthusiastic team of talented young researchers and will have the opportunity to work directly with the Principal Investigator (PI) on all aspects of the work. We expect that contributions will merit authorship on the lab?s publications. The PI is a practicing physician-scientist and is committed to mentoring students and staff to successful careers in medicine and research.

    Responsibilities*

    + Management of our mouse colony will include ear tag placement, genotyping, monitoring and adjusting breeding cages, and maintaining our detailed inventory of mice.

    + Assist with animal models of kidney injury including preparing equipment for surgery, maintaining inventory of surgical supplies, preparing animals for surgery, assisting with surgery, administering post-operative medications, performing post-operative monitoring.

    + Collecting animal tissues for analysis including euthanasia, blood collection, processing samples for histology, storing samples for later molecular analysis.

    + Performing minor procedures on mice including administration of medications and surgical staple removal.

    + Preparing and organizing tissue samples and slides for analysis.

    + With PI, contribute to preparation and updating of animal regulatory protocols and revisions (IACUC)

    + Depending on interest, there will be opportunities to learn other wet lab techniques including immunostaining, image analysis, cell culture, western blotting, quantitative PCR, and others.

    + Applicant must be willing and able to work with laboratory mice daily.

    Required Qualifications*

    Both:

    + Bachelors degree and some wet-lab experience.

    Associate:

    + 0-1 year experience required.

    Intermediate:

    + 1-3 years experience required.

    Desired Qualifications*

    Experience working with laboratory mice.

     

    Modes of Work

     

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.     Additional Information

     

    This position is term-limited with the possibility of renewal based on need and available funding. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

     

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
