    Summary:

    This position has responsibilities in the following sections of the laboratory - Microbiology Processing and STAT Area, Bacteriology, and Special Microbiology sections of the laboratory. The Special Microbiology section consists of Mycobacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, and Sendouts.

    Schedule:

    Monday-Thursday, 8:30pm to 7:00am, rotating holidays.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Direct specimen processing and direct specimen Gram stains

    2. Rapid antigen testing – Cdiff, Strep, Legionella, Trichomonas, Mono, Crypto

    3. Rapid molecular/PCR testing – RSV, Flu, Cdiff, Gram Positive Susceptibility COVID testing

    4. Total Lab Automation instrumentation (BD Kiestra), plate reading and organism ID

    5. Susceptibility testing – automated and KB

    6. Quality control of instruments, reagents, and media.

    7. Investigates problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and/or workflow.

    8. May perform teaching of Clinical Laboratory Science students, Pathology residents, training of new employees.

    9. May serve as a technical resource.

    10. Reports results to healthcare providers and consults providers regarding test results.

    11. Reviews test results to ensure accuracy of report and timely correction of errors.

    Education Requirements:

    • Requires Bachelor's of Science degree. Must meet eligibility requirements upon hire to sit for MT exam within 12 months of hire.

    Licensure/Certification Requirements:

    • Must obtain certification within one year of becoming exam eligible.

    • No prior experience required.
