    Summary:

    At Meta Reality Labs, we are developing the future of Wearables and Mixed Reality products. This team focuses on developing display and optics technologies for Meta products, creating see-through display systems that seamlessly blend the real and virtual realms. The role involves designing architecture and display sub-systems for wearable devices, developing and implementing test, characterization, metrology, and data solutions to support transparent display systems.We're seeking an experienced Engineer focused on Optical Engineering to join our Reality Labs team, where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of these systems. As a key member of our team, you'll explore innovative architectures and design spaces for wearable systems, develop and analyze system components, and drive detailed system-level analysis. In this role, you will be part of a team where you will consistently switch between high-level thinking and meticulous attention to detail to mature our architectures and designs.

    Required Skills:

    Optical Engineer - Mixed Reality Responsibilities:

    1. Explore architectures and design spaces for optical systems through design and prototyping using novel and conventional techniques and components

    2. Develop and analyze system and subsystem components that are specified to meet the needs of advanced AR products

    3. Perform detailed system level analysis (i.e. optical modeling, tolerancing, and estimating size, weight, power to predict system performance etc.)

    4. Contribute to the process of design releases, prototyping and creation of related documentation

    5. Collaborate with internal teams for adoption of mature technologies

    Minimum Qualifications:

    6. Bachelors or Masters degree in the field of Optics, Optical Sciences, Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences or a similar field, and/or equivalent work experience

    7. 2+ years of experience in applied research and/or product development

    8. 2+ years of experience with optical systems or similar

    9. Experience maturing optical systems from proof-of-concept to early low volume prototype or production

    10. Experience in scripting and/or system optimization and analysis tools

    11. Knowledge of optical design, modeling methods, and tools for imaging and illumination systems as well as tolerance analysis

    12. Experience working, communicating, and collaborating in a cross-functional environment

    Preferred Qualifications:

    13. Experience designing and simulating optical systems (including illumination systems, camera modules, viewing optics with films/coatings) for eye tracking and face tracking applications through sequential and non-sequential ray tracing using Zemax and LightTools to optimize system performance, including image quality, distortion, and signal-to-noise ratio

    14. Analyzing data from builds to validate design and simulation accuracy, lead iterative design cycles based on data analysis

    15. Experience with illumination simulation, camera modeling, and stray light analysis

    16. Experience with eye tracking technology or related fields (e.g., ophthalmology, computer vision)

    17. Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C++

    18. Proven experience in analytical and problem-solving skills

    Public Compensation:

    $111,000/year to $164,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
