    Sr. Principal Scientist - Precision Medicine Translational Target Discovery

     

    What you will do

     

    Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. Precision Medicine is seeking an innovative scientist to drive novel target discovery at the intersections of translational research, human genetics and disease biology. In this vital role you will validate novel target nominations supported by real world evidence and human genetics through functional and mechanistic investigation. This individual will lead a small team of experimental biologists integrated within a broader collaborative target discovery working group spanning therapeutic areas and modalities, computational biology, precision medicine and the human genetics team at deCODE genetics. Success in these efforts will have the impact of advancing novel targets into drug development and ultimately the clinic

    Example focus areas include:

    + Understanding disease associated mechanisms of genetically nominated targets

    + Identifying targetable pathways and implicated cell types from human genetic studies

    + Elucidating mechanisms of disease associated variants through genetic engineering

    + Applying functional genomics to uncover the role of non-coding regulatory elements

    + Developing chemical genetic strategies to model and assess the consequences of pharmacological target modulation

     

    What we expect of you

    Basic Qualifications:

    Doctorate degree PhD OR PharmD OR MD [and relevant post-doc where applicable] and 3 years of directly related experience

     

    Or

     

    Master’s degree and 6 years of directly related experience

     

    Or

     

    Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of directly related experience

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + MD or PhD + >2 years industry or academic experience

    + Excellence in the method and logic of experimental biology

    + Experience in target discovery, drug discovery and/or therapeutics

    + Ability to develop rigorous analysis plans and to interpret experimental results through statistical and quantitative approaches

    + Proven ability in written or oral scientific communication – a strong record of scientific publication or presentation

    + Strong track record of mentorship at the bench

    + Highly adaptable individual with a firm grounding in the fundamentals of genetics, molecular biology and target discovery.

    + Demonstrated experience in hypothesis development and experimental design is crucial as is the desire to lead from the front and generate data necessary to test therapeutic hypotheses.

    + A highly collaborative leader able to simplify and unambiguously communicate data, logic and strategy across a diverse team environment.

    The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
