Geotechnical Engineer

RIZZO International, Inc. is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer with 2–15 years of experience to join our Pittsburgh, PA office. The successful candidate will work on a variety of geotechnical projects with a focus on dam safety, foundation engineering, and geotechnical analysis. This role will involve participation in all phases of our projects — from planning and feasibility studies to conceptual and final design — with opportunities for both field and office work. A Master’s or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering may be considered in lieu of some experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Perform geotechnical calculations and analyses for seepage, slope stability, shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, and tieback anchors.
+ Prepare technical reports, design and construction drawings, specifications, and other documentation.
+ Plan subsurface exploration programs and laboratory testing investigations.
+ Conduct site reconnaissance and execute subsurface investigations to support design work.
+ Provide technical support during the construction phase of projects.
+ Assist with dam safety inspections and other field evaluations.
+ Collaborate with project teams to ensure high-quality deliverables and client satisfaction.
+ Domestic travel required (~15%).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
+ 2–15 years of relevant geotechnical experience (Master’s counts as 1 year; PhD counts as 2 years).
+ Experience with geotechnical analysis software such as GeoStudio, STABL, SLIDE, or LPILE.
+ Strong technical writing, verbal communication, and teamwork skills.
+ U.S. employment authorization.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain within 1–2 years.
+ Master’s or PhD with a focus in Geotechnical Engineering.
+ Experience with FEM/FDM software such as PLAXIS 3D, Midas 3D, or FLAC3D.
+ Programming or scripting skills for engineering applications.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $ 60,000 - $120,000 per year (commensurate with experience)
