    POSITION TITLE:

    CONTRACT LENGTH:

    12 months

    40 hours as assigned. Overtime as required by the Director of Transportation of Lead Technician

    VMF Mechanic Foreman

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Repair and maintenance of school buses and other vehicles owned by or leased to the South Bend Community School Corporation.

    DUTIES:

    Repair and replacement as required of engine and drive train components (gasoline and diesel). Exhaust system maintenance. Electrical system maintenance and repair. Heating and cooling system maintenance and repair. Hydraulic system maintenance and repair. Maintenance and repair of mechanical components (i.e. suspension, steering, linkage, doors, etc.) Provide guidance and direction to drivers when appropriate. Brake system maintenance and/or repair. Provide guidance and direction to other less experienced mechanics working on the same or similar jobs. Provide guidance and direction to drivers when appropriate.

     

    Perform related work as required. Overtime required when needed. Must have a good attitude and hard working. Will train the right person.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    CDL-Class B license required. Have minimum of five current years experience in diesel and heavy duty engine repair and maintenance. Experienced in carburization, ignition and transmission repair. Must be a high school graduate, hold GED and/or U.S. military service. Should be a graduate of technical school and/or have necessary mechanical aptitude and training or equivalent experience. Experienced in working on trucks and/or busses with GVW 10,000 pounds or more. Must have own mechanical tools required for vehicle repair.
