Job Summary:

The Department of Physician Assistant Studies at SUNY Upstate Medical University seeks full time faculty to contribute to the delivery of its rigorous 27-month Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program. The program emphasizes a strong foundation in biomedical and clinical sciences, patient-centered care, and service to medically underserved and rural communities in Upstate New York.

Faculty are expected to:

Deliver Didactic Instruction: Teach and facilitate courses covering topics such as anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, clinical medicine, diagnostic studies, and professional practice. Instruction may include lectures, small group discussions, and simulation-based learning.

Engage in Curriculum Development: Collaborate with faculty to develop, review, and update course materials to ensure alignment with current medical practices and accreditation standards.

Promote Interprofessional Education: Participate in interprofessional teaching activities that reflect the collaborative nature of healthcare delivery.

This faculty appointment is full-time and may vary in duration and scheduling based on departmental needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates should hold an advanced clinical or academic degree such as an M.D., D.O., PA, or Ph.D. in a relevant biomedical or health-related discipline or possess a masters-level clinical credential with substantial experience in areas aligned with the program curriculum. They must maintain an active, unencumbered professional license or board certification appropriate to their discipline. At least three years of relevant experience clinical practice, teaching, curriculum development, or scholarly work is expected. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to high-quality education, evidenced through mentoring, instructional effectiveness, or curricular contributions. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are required, enabling effective collaboration with students, faculty, administration, and other stakeholders, while upholding inclusive and professional learning environments.

We strongly encourage applicants who demonstrate a robust commitment to the PA competencies endorsed by ARC PA, PAEA, and AAPA such as medical knowledge, clinical and technical skills, patient care, interpersonal communication, professional behavior, clinical reasoning and practice-based learning/system-based practice.

Preferred Qualifications:

Formal teaching experience in PA, NP, MD, DO, PharmD, or related health professional programs, particularly utilizing active learning strategies such as case-based, problem-based, or flipped-classroom approaches. Proven ability to work collaboratively across interdisciplinary teams educators, clinicians, administrators, and community partners to support integrated education and patient-centered practice. Familiarity with accreditation standards, curriculum mapping, outcomes assessment, or quality assurance practices for PA or similar clinical training programs, and experience supporting accreditation processes. Commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom and clinical training environments, fostering respectful and culturally competent learning.
