    The Senior Professional Staff Nurse, OP is a Registered Nurse who plays a key role in delivering high-quality patient care. A Sr. Professional Staff Nurse, OP sets care standards, leads nursing activities, and exercises independent judgment while coordinating with interdisciplinary teams. They build strong relationships with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to ensure optimal outcomes and demonstrate ongoing dedication to the community and nursing profession.

     

    Title and Rate of Pay will be based on Education and Experience.

    Responsibilities:

    + Demonstrates accountability for ongoing professional development and actively contributes to improving patient care and the practice environment.

    + Embraces shared governance, participates in goal setting, and supports change initiatives.

    + Engages as a collaborative team member, fostering positive relationships across disciplines and maintaining flexibility in dynamic clinical settings.

    + Applies critical thinking and sound judgment in patient care, while maintaining physical stamina and dexterity required for hands-on responsibilities.

    + Provides effective, individualized education to patients, families, and staff, and serves as a preceptor and mentor.

    + Promotes open communication, cultural competence, and a healthy work-life balance.

    + Formulates and coordinates holistic care plans, partnering with physicians and patients.

    + Communicates clinical insights clearly and maintains comprehensive documentation.

    + Contributes to quality improvement and uses evidence-based practice to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction.

    + Builds healing relationships through compassion, advocacy, and professional excellence.

    + Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.

    + Must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures

    + Minimum 2 years nursing experience.

    + BSN preferred.

    + Previous Pediatric experience preferred

    + Rating of solid/strong/good or higher on most recent performance evaluation.

    + UPMC approved national certification OR master's degree or higher in Nursing required.

    + UPMC Professional Contribution required. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**

    + Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state.

    + CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

    + Act 31 / 33 / 34 / 73 with renewal

    *Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
