The Moayedi lab in the Pain Research Center at New York University College of Dentistry (New York, NY) is seeking a postdoctoral research scientist to study oral somatosensation and flavor. The focus of the Moayedi lab is on the neurobiology of the cells and circuits that underlie oral and upper airway mechanosensation and their roles in feeding, communication, and oral pain. The lab uses a combination of molecular biology, in vivo functional imaging, physiology, and behavior.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the successful candidate will work independently and resourcefully to accomplish the responsibilities of the position that may include: rodent somatosensory, orofacial, and gustatory behavioral experiments in existing and novel paradigms (designing experiments, developing appropriate code and apparatuses when needed, carrying out experiments), histology (whole mount and sliced preparations, immunohistochemistry, RNAscope, florescent and light microscopy), in vivo and in vitro imaging of neuronal activity and structure (primary cultures and in vivo intact preparations, 2 photon and widefield florescent microscopy), electrophysiology, rodent husbandry, and rodent surgery (headbar placement, stereotactic injections, ganglia and brain dissection).
The candidate will be expected to be involved in experimental design, developing IACUC and human subjecs protocols as needed, carrying out experiments, data analysis and interpretation, manuscript preparation, presentation at scientific meetings, preparing applications for external funding, training lab members, and performing other duties that are necessary for the operation of the laboratory.
