    How you'll help us Keep Climbing (overview & key responsibilities)

     

    The Director, Risk Management and Insurance is based in Atlanta, Georgia and reports directly to the Senior Vice President & Treasurer within the Finance Division at Delta Air Lines. The position has two direct reports and a total team of ten (there are three insurance placement colleagues including the Director and seven aviation claims colleagues). The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of experience in either risk management, insurance brokerage/consultancy, insurance company operations or combination thereof with a strong casualty risk financing insurance background. Experience in aviation is preferred but not required. Further, experience as the senior leader on a corporate risk management team is preferred but not required. There is some travel (including international- London and Bermuda) with this position and a hybrid work from home environment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Cultivate and collaborate with internal stakeholders – Security, Human Resources, Corporate Real Estate, Legal, Cash Management/Treasury, Environmental, TechOps, Financial Reporting and Emergency Response Team. There is a close working relationship with Emergency Response for major events at Delta and the Risk Management Team will have a colleague at the Operations Command Center (OCC) situation room for events.

    + Lead the insurance team (colleagues, internal and external stakeholders) by keeping them informed/updated on events at Delta, aviation industry trends and operations.

    + Manage external and insurance company actuaries, Third Party Administrators (TPAs), insurance brokers and external risk control engineers to evaluate Workers Compensation and Property loss resultsand manage the actuarial and Risk Control process.

    + Overall responsibility forall lines of insurance for Delta Air Lines and its subsidiaries including Monroe Energy (oil refinery) including Aviation, Directors & Officers, Workers Compensation risk financing, Property/Cargo,etc. Additionally, all insured claims (except Work Comp) flow through the insurance team primarily to the aviation claims team. There is an attorney (General Manager level) that reports to the Director regarding insured aviation claims matters.

    + Serve as leaderfor two captive insurance companies.

    + There is direct responsibility for the risk financing aspects of workers compensation (loss projections, reserves, collateral, etc.; however, the day-to-day claims management function resides within human resources. There is an integrated work comp/ benefits programmanaged by a single third-partyclaim’s administrator.

    + A familiarity with securing different forms of collateral such as letters of credit, surety bonds, bank fronted surety, credit buydown, etc. while working with the internal cash management team and casualty insurance broker to collateralize work compensation loss projections and reserves is an important aspect of the risk financing responsibilities.

    + Develop annual insurance budgets for Delta Air Lines and its subsidiaries.

    + Select, evaluate and manage all external insurance brokers and consultants with responsibility for performance and compensation. Delta Air Lines currently deploys a two-broker model with major lines of insurance allocated between one another.

    + Participate in claims reviews with brokers and TPAs regarding claims arising from Owner Controlled Insurance Programs (OCIP) primarily for WorkersComp and Liability lines of coverage as well as aviation claims reviews. Provide periodic updates to the Treasurerregarding significant claim matters.

    What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

    + Minimum of 15 years of experience in risk management, insurance placement, and claims oversight.

    + ARM (Associate in RiskManagement) or CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) designation Required.

    + Possess analytical skills toassess loss and financial data.

    + Proven experience workingwith actuaries, insurance brokers, and attorneys.

    + Ability to identify andassess the operational and financial risks of the company.

    + Strong knowledge of casualtyand property insurance placement, workers' compensation, and liability claimsnecessary.Aviation knowledge is a plusbut not required.

    + Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data.

    + Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles.

    + Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.

    + Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.

    + Master's or bachelor’s degree in risk management, Insurance, or a related field.
