Jefferson Wells is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented **Cost** **Accounting Consultant** for a long-term engagement (up to 2 yrs) with a manufacturing client located in Marengo, IL. This hybrid role offers a dynamic opportunity to contribute to both cost and general accounting functions in a collaborative team environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Cost Accounting

+ Record all production-related costs including direct materials, labor, and overhead.

+ Assist with annual standard cost updates and analysis.

+ Support readiness controls and activation of standard costs for new items.

+ Contribute to cost roll-ups for quoting purposes.

+ Collaborate with Operations to resolve cost data accuracy issues.

+ Calculate unit costs for finished goods.

+ Analyze variances between standard and actual costs.

+ Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies (e.g., BOM errors, negative inventory).

General Accounting

+ Perform reconciliations for general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies.

+ Prepare monthly journal entries and support month-end close processes.

+ Analyze financial data and provide variance analysis with actionable insights.

+ Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting.

+ Perform additional general accounting duties as assigned.

Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

+ Minimum of 5 years of experience in general **and cost accounting from a manufacturing** setting.

+ Strong verbal and written communication skills.

+ Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

+ Detail-oriented, self-directed, and highly motivated with strong problem-solving and multitasking abilities.

Technical Skills

+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).

+ Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX or similar accounting software preferred.

+ Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently with large data sets.
