    Do you like a small-town atmosphere and enjoy the outdoors and mountain scenery? Then State Hospital North {SHN) in Orofino may have a position as a temporary Dietary Aide Sr. available for you! State Hospital North in Orofino, Idaho, is a licensed 60-bed psychiatric hospital providing primarily involuntary inpatient treatment for adults in psychiatric crisis who are committed to the Department of Health and Welfare. State Hospital North collaborates with patients, their families, and the referring regional behavioral health centers to develop targeted goals and objectives for the individual’s treatment episode while simultaneously focusing on critical supports and arrangements for follow-up care after discharge.

     

    This position is not eligible for telework.

     

    Temporary positions are limited to working 1,385 hours in a 12-month period for any one state agency. Employees are eligible for benefits if they work twenty (20) hours or more per week and the term of employment is expected to exceed five (5) continuous months.

     

    Any applicant offered employment in this position at the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare will be required to complete a criminal history background investigation. Employment is dependent upon satisfactory results of the investigation.

    EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

    1. Food preparation.

     

    Prepares salads, fresh vegetables and fruit, beverages, snacks, juice, salad dressings, and similar items for regular and modified diets, cleans, cuts, chops, dices, and slices foods, opens food containers and drains fruits and vegetables, slices and portions breads, cakes and pies, makes toast, operates mixer, coffee makers, can opener and other appliances, breaks and mixes eggs, makes sandwiches, prepares sack lunches and assists cooks in preparation of specialized foods.

     

    2. Food serving and area preparation.

     

    Turns on and adjusts steam tables and refrigerated units, sets up dining areas with seating, tableware, condiment containers, napkin holders, and jelly holders, follows posted menu and serving schedules, portions salads, desserts, fruits, and other items on serving line, loads and unloads food carriers, arranges food, beverages, and dishes for serving, stocks kitchen storage areas and staple bins, deliver food to units, may read and interpret dietary cards.

     

    3. Cleaning and sanitation.

     

    Sweeps and mops floors, scrubs wall and windows, cleans steam and eating tables, food carriers, trays, and chairs, defrosts refrigerators, cleans walk-ins, storage areas, utensils, and equipment, operates commercial dishwasher, monitors temperature levels in dishwasher by checking gauges or using thermometers, monitors pH balance in dishwasher using chemical test strips, disassembles dishwasher and cleans room when finished, hand washes dishes when necessary.

     

    4. Deliveries:

     

    All supplies must be put away in accordance to SHN and Joint Commission requirements. Stock and rotate supplies to ensure first in/ first out. Monitor expiration dates and ensure all food has accurate Use By dates.

     

    5.0Documentation:

     

    All required documentation in the Dietary department must be maintained in accordance to SHN and Joint Commission.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Please make sure your resume or work history supports your meeting the minimum qualifications for this position. Failure to do this may disqualify you from being considered for this position. It is highly recommended to attach a one-page cover letter to your application to demonstrate how you meet the requirements below.

     

    + Good knowledge of sanitation and safety practices used in food handling.

    + Good knowledge of equipment and devices (appliances) used in food preparation.

    + Experience operating and cleaning kitchen equipment.

    + Experience cleaning and sanitizing kitchen areas.

    The minimum qualifications are typically gained by:

    + At least 3 months of work experience in fast-food restaurant, using, cleaning, and sanitizing kitchen areas and equipment OR at least 3 months of work experience in an institution such as a school, hospital, or nursing home, using, cleaning, and sanitizing kitchen areas and equipment.

    + On-the-job training for food service safety OR attended an 8-hour course (in-service training) or seminar on food service safety (this is not the same as on-the-job training) OR completed college, or vocational, food handling course or military food service training.
