    Position Summary

    A career in Engineering Services will provide the opportunity to perform general engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.

     

    Roles within Engineering are responsible for a variety of engineering services functions that could include construction, systems engineering, design support, or similar engineering support activities. This includes ensuring the timely, thorough, and accurate completion of all engineering services projects. This also includes the preparation of new or modified designs. The Engineering Services team also maintains various activities and reports, drawing reproduction, and customer documentation. The team also must act as Subject Matter Experts providing technical support to the operations function as well as other functional areas within SJI. Additionally, this role may need to be able to apply Computer Aided Design (CAD) techniques to generate and interpret engineering designs in support of assigned projects.

    Essential Functions:

    + Manage third party design vendors for the completion of gas main renewal designs.

    + Coordinate with agencies for permitting of gas main installation work including various Counties and municipalities, NJDEP and NJDOT.

    + Coordinate with SJG Construction and Sales departments for schedule and timing of work.

    + Preparing complete project documents consisting of cost estimates, engineered plans, reports, procedures, and permits.

    + Formulating and solving problems as presented

    + Applying broad knowledge of engineering concepts and practices in a specific practice area to ensure safe and reliable design techniques

    + Independently evaluating, selecting, and adapting standard techniques, procedures, and criteria

    + Providing informal guidance to new team members and providing formal guidance to large project teams

    + Receiving guidance on more complex questions and issues from senior level engineers and professionals

     

    This role will possess advanced knowledge of engineering and/or technical concepts, practices, and procedures. The successful candidate will work as the primary engineer and project manager on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects to be developed with others.

     

    It is expected that the candidate for this role is proficient in most types of work within the group/project team and may act as a technical resource for less experienced employees. Furthermore, it is expected that the successful candidate will present results in team meetings, corporate presentations, and management one on ones. The ideal candidate will receive little instruction on day-to-day work and receive general instructions on new assignments/topics of interest while reporting directly to the Supervisor of Engineering Services.

    Qualifications

    Required Background:

    + Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited school with 2+ years of relevant experience. Alternate degrees may be accepted provided relevant work experience is demonstrated.

    + Master’s degree with 0 years of relevant experience.

    + Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

    Required Skills:

    + Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

    + Must be a self-starting individual, with the ability to handle multiple assignments and to prioritize tasks.

    + Working knowledge of PC-based programs, databases, and applications.

    Preferred Skills:

    + An Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification

    + Technical writing experience.

    + Familiarity with CFR 49 Part 192 and NJBPU regulations is desired.

    + Experience in specifically natural gas Engineering Design, Construction, or operations.

    + Knowledge of AutoCAD.

    Compensation Range:

    $69,000 - 110,400

     

    We are committed to pay transparency and ensuring equitability compensation for all employees. The pay range for this position reflects the base salary only and does not include benefits, bonuses, or other forms of compensation that might be part of the total compensation package. The specific salary offered will be based on a candidate’s qualifications, education, and experience.
