    Job Title: Child and Family Counselor

     

    Department: Behavioral Health / Community Psychiatric Supports and Treatment (CPST)

    Position Summary

    The Child and Family Counselor provides in-home and community-based services to Medicaid-enrolled youth ages 0–21 under the Medicaid State Plan Service Community Psychiatric Supports and Treatment (CPST). CPST is a multi-component service that includes therapeutic interventions, counseling, functional supports, and psychoeducation. Services are designed to assist youth and families in achieving stability, functional improvement, recovery and/or resilience, stronger family and interpersonal relationships, and successful integration in school and community settings.

    Department

    New Directions Youth & Family Services’ Behavioral Health programs provide individualized, evidence-based supports to children, youth, and families. Staff deliver services directly in homes, schools, and community environments to promote stability, growth, and resilience.

    Benefits

    Compensation

    + $45.00/hour for service hours

    + $15.50/hour for administrative tasks

    Hours/Schedule

    Part-Time, less than 25 hours per week. Flexible schedule, including evenings, based on client availability.

    Staff receive ongoing training in evidence-based practices, Medicaid documentation requirements, and professional skill development. New Directions invests in supervision and continuous education to support both client success and employee growth.

     

    Position Specific Duties/Responsibilities

    Individualized Services

    + Deliver services based on child/youth strengths and needs

    + Administer assessments in alignment with the child/youth’s goals and cultural identity

    Rehabilitative Psychoeducation & Service Planning

    + Educate youth, families, and collaterals on strategies and treatment options

    + Assist families with identifying strengths, needs, resources, and supports

    Rehabilitative Supports

    + Provide restoration, rehabilitation, and support to develop skills needed for daily functioning

    + Implement evidence-based practices as trained

    Collaboration with Community Partners

    + Coordinate with service providers, community agencies, and informal supports

    + Maintain a working knowledge of community resources for referral and linkage

    + Participate in case conferences and multidisciplinary teams

    Documentation

    + Use agency’s electronic record system for assessments, service plans, progress notes, and outcome monitoring

    + Maintain accurate, timely, and Medicaid-compliant records

    + Protect confidentiality of all client and family information

    Training and Standards

    + Attend all mandatory in-service trainings as required by agency and county regulations

    + Participate in supervision and adhere to agency standards, policies, and procedures

    + Maintain flexibility to serve clients during evenings or as needed

    + Perform other duties as assigned

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    + Strong assessment, counseling, and communication skills

    + Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and with community partners

    + Knowledge of Medicaid requirements and billing practices preferred

    + Flexibility, adaptability, and commitment to trauma-informed, strengths-based practice

    + Cultural competence and ability to work with clients and families from diverse backgrounds

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in a human services field plus two years of related experience

    OR

    + Registered Professional Nurse plus one year of experience

    OR

    + Licensed Occupational Therapist or Licensed Creative Arts Therapist
