    This position is open to residents and non-residents of Colorado. If appointed to a position,

    The Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan (CMHHIFL) is one of two state psychiatric hospitals serving Colorado residents with acute mental illnesses and/or court-ordered inpatient restoration treatment. Our vision is to provide exemplary inpatient psychiatric care to residents in Colorado with acute, serious and persistent mental health needs. CMHHIFL supports hope, health and recovery through innovative, evidence-based and individualized patient care.

     

    CMHHIFL provides inpatient treatment to adult clients generally between the ages of 18 and 59. The hospital has 94 civil adult inpatient beds and 22 forensic beds. Medical, rehabilitation services (physical, occupational and speech therapy) and clinical programming are available to clients based on their treatment needs. https://cdhs.colorado.gov/CMHHIFL

    Description of Job

    This position is required to be onsite Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

    Management and Leadership:

    Provide management and leadership for all programs and services provided by the Hospital. Perform, and/ or oversee all duties relative to accomplishing the mission, goals, objectives and purposes of the hospital. Evaluate data related to the hospital's performance In relation to these goals and objectives and take management action to improve outcomes. Analyze program efficiency and effectiveness, identify and define areas for Improvement, and ensure that solutions are implemented and monitored for effectiveness and efficiency. Perform these management and leadership duties while being responsive to constant change and revision of budget levels, accreditation, and accountability programs, economic changes, and the changing needs of the patient population and changing state of inpatient psychiatric treatment. Establish systematic and effective mechanisms for hospital planning and communicating with members of the Governing Body, between hospital executives, the medical staff, nursing, and other disciplines, services, programs, and departments.

    Oversight of Treatment Requirements:

    Ensure that the treatment and services provided to patients meet all regulatory requirements, including the Joint Commission, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, the CDHS Behavioral Health Administration, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Utilize hospital quality management resources to monitor hospital compliance with these regulatory requirements. Develop and implement plans of correction in the event of regulatory survey findings. Establish policies and procedures and methods of operation to ensure the existence of an effective performance improvement program; patient safety program, and risk management program within the hospital.

    Budget Management:

    Manage and administer an annual operating budget totaling approximately $59 million annually. Assure balanced resource deployment (personnel services, operating, and capital outlay) between the Hospital’s treatment programs, clinical departments and ancillary and support areas. Make management decisions to reduce projected budget shortfalls or allocate projected surpluses during the fiscal year.

    Supervision:

    Identify performance goals and objectives for direct report staff and monitor staff performance in relation to these goals and objectives. Conduct performance management and pay (PMAP) planning review and appraisal for direct reports. Hold frequent supervision meetings with each direct report and provide coaching, timely feedback and communication regarding work performance. Administer corrective or disciplinary action as needed and defend such actions. Hear grievances and other personnel actions (i.e. Rule 6-10 meetings) as appointing authority.

     

    Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in psychology, social work or other human services or health care administration related field AND six years of professional experience providing administrative oversight over a multi unit acute care facility in an executive leadership/management role which includes the following areas of competency:

    + Leadership

    + Staff supervision

    + Crisis Management

    + Inpatient facility operations management

    + Budget management

    + Ensuring service quality and the needs of clients/patients are met

    Substitutions:

    A master's or doctorate degree from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the bachelor's degree and one or two years of experience respectively.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Extensive professional experience (7+ years preferred) in an executive role within the healthcare industry, with a substantial portion specifically within inpatient psychiatric hospital settings.

    + Proven success in executive-level advising and interdepartmental collaboration, including organizing and directing multiple teams and departments.

    + Demonstrated success in managing the operations of an acute inpatient hospital psychiatric facility.

    + Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to unify stakeholders and articulate a strategic vision.

    + Proven track record of improving clinical outcomes, enhancing patient satisfaction, and achieving financial stability and growth.

    + Extensive experience with regulatory compliance, accreditation processes (e.g., The Joint Commission), and quality improvement methodologies.

    + Strong experience in budget management, financial planning, and revenue cycle management within a healthcare organization.

    + Experience in community relations, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy.

    Highly Desirable Characteristics:

    + In-depth knowledge of mental health disorders, evidence-based treatment modalities, and best practices in psychiatric care.

    + Comprehensive understanding of relevant healthcare laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines (e.g., HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2).

    + Exceptional leadership, communication (both written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.

    + Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with medical staff, employees, patients, families, and community partners.

    + Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

    + Sound financial acumen and business management capabilities.

    + Ability to foster a positive, collaborative, and patient-centered work environment.

    + Knowledge of current trends, challenges, and emerging issues in the behavioral healthcare industry.

    + Proficiency in utilizing data and analytics to drive performance improvement and inform decision-making.

    + Strong understanding of risk management principles and their application in an acute psychiatric setting.

    + Demonstrated commitment to cultural competence, diversity, equity, and inclusion, with the ability to lead a diverse workforce.
