    Reports to: Seafood Production Manager

     

    The primary function of this warehouse position is to handle and prepare seafood items for shipment while maintaining product quality and adhering to food safety standards. An individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed below. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

     

    The Seafood Associate must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed below. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for the position.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

     

    + Handle fresh and frozen seafood items with care to ensure quality standards are met.

    + Prepare seafood orders for shipment by packing and weighing products in baskets, boxes, or crates according to specifications and labeling them upon completion. Assemble seafood boxes and pack with ice.

    + Assist with receiving and put away incoming product.

    + Sort and label customer orders.

    + Utilize a hand truck, U-boat, pallet jack, and/or powered industrial equipment to move seafood products to and from storage and processing areas.

    + Perform daily inventory and quality control checks on seafood items.

    + Clean and sanitize work areas while adhering to company sanitation and safety procedures.

    + Maintain and safely operate all assigned equipment, including personal protective equipment.

    + Work in a colder, wet environment in the warehouse while ensuring personal safety and adherence to company policies.

    + Adhere to all safety practices, food safety principles, and company policies. Report any unsafe conditions to the supervisor immediately.

    + Attend all required company meetings and training sessions.

    + Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or operations management.

    Qualifications

    Education/Training

    + Must be able to read, write and communicate in English as it relates to the job and safety requirements.

    + Must have basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).

    + Warehouse experience preferred.

    + Experience operating electric pallet jack or forklift preferred.

     

    Physical Requirements: The physical requirements described here are representative of those required of an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

     

    + Required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.

    + Regularly work in a refrigerated environment.

    + Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.

    + Regularly required to reach with hands and arms, balance, talk, hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit.

    + Frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move between 41 and 50 pounds, and seldom lift and/or move 51 pounds and up to 100 pounds.

    + Frequently bend and twist while retrieving items from lower shelf areas and operating a pallet jack or other powered industrial equipment.

     

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

     

    + Must be able to work the assigned schedule.

    + Must be able to use, or learn to use, all equipment and tools used to perform the job.

    + Must be at least 18 years of age.

    + Must successfully pass a controlled substance screening test.

    + Must adhere to all safety practices and company policies.

    + Able to work rapidly at a constant pace for the entire shift, in a fast-paced environment.

    + Develop a working knowledge of the product.

    + Excellent organizational skills

    + Must be able to work as a team and individually

    + Must be able to follow directions

    + Attention to detail is key in this position

     

    Work Environment

     

    While performing the duties of this job, a produce associate will constantly work near powered industrial equipment and experience exposure to vibration and moderate to high noise levels. The work environment includes congested and high traffic areas, slippery floors, working alongside forklifts, single pallet jacks, electric walk behind jacks and hand carts. Walking and working on concrete flooring. Duties will require working in varying climates. Temperatures range from below zero in the freezers to 95F degrees or above outdoors. The shift start and end-time fluctuates with the operation’s daily needs.
