The faculty of the Department of Statistics at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a 9-month, full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 16, 2026. The position is part of the University President’s AI Initiative that includes a cluster of hires in the areas of data science, visual arts, psychological neuroscience, and computational linguistics.
The Department of Statistics in the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences currently consists of fourteen tenured/tenure-track faculty and nine full-time instructors. Current research areas of the faculty include survival and reliability analysis, Bayesian statistics, latent variable methods, item response theory and psychometrics, semiparametric and nonparametric inference, group and pooled testing, highly-structured or high-dimensional data, statistical learning, machine learning, functional and object data, scalable and post-selection inference, and statistical genetics.
