    2nd SHIFT POSITION: 3PM-MIDNIGHT Monday through Friday

    Salary Ranges:

    Level I: $20.50 - $30.75

     

    Level II: $21.95- $32.92

     

    Level III: $23.46 - $35.20

     

    Under general supervision of the Fleet Services Supervisor the Fleet Equipment Technician assists in repairs and maintenance on heavy trucks, heavy and small equipment, and vehicles used in support of City operations to include automobiles, trucks, sweepers, graders, tractors, and other power-driven and mechanical equipment; ensuring that all vehicles meet State safety inspection standards.

     

    The entry-level Fleet Equipment Technician I classification in the Automotive Technician series follows routine procedures and guidelines in the application of prescribed duties and works under close supervision with work frequently reviewed by a superior. This classification is distinguished from the Automotive Technician II and III in that the latter performs more complex technical duties requiring a higher level of knowledge and skills.

     

    Under basic supervision, the Automotive Technician II and III is responsible for the repair, servicing, preventive maintenance, and inspection of gasoline and diesel-powered automobiles, heavy trucks, and equipment.

     

    The journey-levels, Fleet Equipment Technicians I and II classifications in the Automotive Technician series follow diversified procedures and implements processes to accomplish end results, within guidelines, performing all duties of the Fleet Technician I in addition to the following duties, requiring limited supervision.

    Principal Duties

    Fleet Equipment Technician

     

    + Perform minor repairs on gasoline and diesel engines.

    + Perform minor repair work and adjustments on automobiles, medium and heavy duty trucks, and all types of heavy equipment

    + Maintain record of services performed and assist with writing shop repairs orders.

    + Perform preventative maintenance and state inspections on automobiles, medium and heavy-duty trucks, and heavy equipment including all types of fluid level checks and lubrication checks.

    + Perform other duties as assigned.

    Fleet Equipment Technician Level II or III

    + Responsible for diagnosing malfunctioning of electrical and computer components of vehicles and equipment, and determining actions to be taken for repair on city vehicles and equipment to include, but not limited to A/C systems, alternators, starters, steering mechanisms, electrical cooling and emission control systems and other controls.

    + Test, diagnose and repair malfunctions of vehicle and equipment computer, electrical, and mechanical components; perform oil changes and tune ups on gas and diesel engines; and perform complete brake service and repairs.

    + May modify, fabricate, and install special equipment.

    + Assist and work with other technicians in performing repairs.

    + In the absence of the supervisor, may lead the work activities of others.

    + Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Fleet Equipment Technician

    Required:

    High School Diploma or G.E.D., one (1) year technical training in a field related to area of assignment, or one (1) year automotive/equipment repair experience; or, an equivalent combination of training and experience. State Inspector Certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire date. Possess Class C Drivers license or State of Texas Class B CDL (CDL must be obtained within one (1) year of hire date). Basic understanding of mechanical and automotive principles. Ability to work after hours and weekends.

    Preferred:

    Completion of automotive trade school. ASE or EVT Certification in the automotive or truck field. Two (2) years automotive/equipment repair experience.

     

    Fleet Equipment Technician II

    Required:

    High School Diploma or G.E.D., two (2) years technical training in a field related to area of assignment, or two (2) years automotive/equipment repair experience; or, an equivalent combination of training and experience. Possess Class B CDL Driver's License and maintain. Possess two (2) ASE or EVT Certifications in the automotive or truck field. State Inspector Certification.

     

    Fleet Equipment Technician III

    Required:

    High School Diploma or G.E.D., three (3) years technical training in a field related to area of assignment, or three (3 years automotive/equipment repair experience; or, an equivalent combination of training and experience. Possess Class A CDL Driver's License and maintain. Possess four (4) ASE or EVT Certifications in the automotive or truck field. State Inspector Certification.

     

    Please note: Applicants will be considered for the level in which minimum requirements are satisfied.

    2nd SHIFT POSITION: 3PM-MIDNIGHT Monday through Friday

    Drug Screening: Due to the safety and/or security sensitive nature of this position, individuals shall be subject to pre-employment or pre-placement drug and/or controlled substance testing as outlined in City policy.
