    Job Description:

    Job Scope

     

    The position is responsible for the purchasing functions of the Danville, KY facility. The buyer ensures the raw materials, outsourcing activities, and purchased material are available when needed for their respective functions. Able to proactively think and act strategically to support cost reduction and continuous improvement strategies.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education

    Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Purchasing, or Supply Chain or 5-10 years of experience in a purchasing role.

    Experience

    Minimum five (5) years of experience in purchasing or supply chain in a manufacturing environment; 10+ years of experience in purchasing or supply chain and/or Kanban systems in lieu of degree

    Skills and Abilities

    + Thorough knowledge of supply chain theory and best practices

    + Understands lean techniques and principles including MRD and Kanban

    + Strong negotiation skills

    + Strong computer skills to create and maintain data (i.e. Epicor preferred)

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with demonstrated expertise in creating and managing complex spreadsheets. Strong ability to write and troubleshoot advanced formulas, including but not limited to VLOOKUP, IF statements, and pivot tables.

    + Proficient in data analysis skills for creating strategies for decision-making and improving efficiency

    + Able to independently solve critical problems and think strategically to overcome obstacles

    + Technical background or experience in purchasing involving stainless steel products, preferred.

    + Self-directed and able to work independently

    + Detail oriented

    + Proficient in verbal and written communication in both individual and group settings

    + Proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite, as well as the ability to learn and adapt to new computer systems

    Preferred Qualifications

    APICS Certified in Planning and Inventory Management, Certified Supply Chain Professional, Certified in Logistics, Transportation, and Distribution; SCPro Level 1, 2, 3 Certified Supply Chain Procurement Professional; Lean Six Sigma Green Belt; CPIM Certified in Production and Inventory Management; CPSM Certified Professional in Supplier Diversity)

    Position Responsibilities

    Departmental Responsibilities

    + Perform complex vendor negotiations and contract set up

    + Purchase raw materials to ensure they are available when production is ready to produce. This includes the use of POs, monitoring inventory levels, communication with suppliers, and ensuring receipt of materials

    + Utilize MRD/Kanban systems in the process of planning and inventory management

    + Strategically reviews the purchasing history, demands, and purchasing strategy for making modifications to the ordering process affecting the inventory KPIs and desired pricing metrics

    + Assist and work on specialty regulatory projects and supply chain integrity programs including vendor performance ratings

    + Perform administrative tasks such as investigative inventory discrepancies, invoice verifications, and resolution of receipts

    Product Development and Design

    + Work alongside engineering and quality for new product development purchasing needs

    Teamwork and Collaboration

    + Coordinate data, tasks, and projects with the Warewash Sourcing team and Corporate Strategic Sourcing departments

    + Communicates and consults with engineering, quality, and operations on design changes and quality improvements

    People Management

    + Monitor and address safety concerns and issues that arise and implement corrective actions, as well as communicate actions to cross functional teams

    + Supports all safety and processing procedures in collaboration with supervisors, managers, and/or engineers

    + Participates in and encourages continuous improvement activities and acts as a role model

    + Provides real-time feedback and course correction for hourly teammates, both in and outside the weld department, when needed, and communicates to the supervisor any feedback or corrections/conversations that occurred

    + Must be available to oversee hourly teammates when sole salaried teammates in the building

    + Provides corrective actions when needed and ensures proper documentation for teammate files and human resources

    Continuous Improvement

    + Assist in PLS and 80/20 activities to minimize purchasing activity, determine better purchasing strategies, and identify potential improvements to our supply chain

    + Participate in workflow studies

    + Coordinate materials replenishment systems (kanban) and evaluate vendor quality and responsiveness

    + Utilize toolbox projects to investigate cost reduction strategies

    + Analyze improvement opportunities in the manufacturing process to determine corrective actions

    + Investigate advanced methodologies or technologies for continuous improvement strategies and interface with production teams to assure quality of purchased parts

    Physical Requirements

    + Manufacturing, non-air-conditioned environment or office environment

    + PPE required: Steel-toe Shoes, Composite Electrical Hazard Safety Shoes, and eye protection. Based on job duties the following PPE could be required: Ear protection, gloves, sleeves, or welding equipment (i.e. face shield, apron).

    + While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands and arms and walk frequently on concrete floors. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
