    Position Summary

    Make a splash with the City of Bozeman as an Assistant Aquatics Manager! You’ll help lead our Aquatics Team in creating a safe, welcoming, and fun environment. From lifeguarding, teaching swim lessons, maintaining pool facilities, and overseeing the aquatics staff, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our aquatics programs running smoothly.     Work Week: Typically, Monday - Friday, 12:00pm - 9:00pm.

     

    Schedule is subject to change due to operational needs.

    Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)

    + Assists in the Supervisor in the management of quality aquatics programs for all ages, including program design, marketing/public relations, budgeting, program implementation and evaluation;

    + Makes recommendations for the annual operating budget for assigned areas of responsibility. Assists the Aquatics Manager in the monitoring of expenditures, maintaining related reports and records, compiling budget data, and reviewing purchase orders and expenditures for approval;

    + Assists the Aquatics Manager in planning, organizing, directing and evaluating the daily operations for assigned divisions, including assigning daily work schedules, setting priorities, establishing goals, and monitoring all completed work and work in progress to ensure all work is completed in a timely and efficient manner;

    + Assists the Aquatics Manager in hiring, training, and supervising assigned personnel including scheduling staff according to program needs, conducting employee evaluations, and taking or recommending disciplinary actions in accordance with established City policies and procedures;

    + Maintains detailed health and safety records;

    + Supports the operation of the aquatic facilities, including the maintenance, safety, and sanitation of swimming pools and related equipment, including testing and monitoring water chemical balance;

    + Orders resale items and equipment;

    + Negotiates contracts and agreements with service providers, user groups, and other professionals;

    + Serves as Aquatics Division Safety Coordinator including certifying staff, ensuring staff certifications are current, and in-service trainings are completed;

    + Teaches and supervises swimming lessons;

    + Lifeguards and supervises lifeguarding at pool;

    + Participates in the creation, evaluation, and modification of aquatics programs;

    + Promotes positive work attitudes within the division and maximize teamwork and cooperation by all departmental employees;

    + Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees;

    + Provides effective professional liaison between the Aquatics Division and other City departments, divisions, outside agencies, media, and the general public;

    + Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems;

    + Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas;

    + Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner and takes the appropriate measure to ensure an expedient resolution or citizen satisfaction;

    + Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities;

    + Performs other duties consistent with the role and function of this classification.

     

    Minimum Required Qualifications

     

    + Associate’s Degree in Education, Recreation, or a closely related field; and

    + At least 3 years of progressively responsible aquatic experience, including 2 years of supervisory experience; or

    + Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

     

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

     

    + Thorough knowledge of Montana Standards for Public Swimming Pools, International Swimming Pool and Spa Code, and other pertinent State health codes;

    + Thorough knowledge of or ability to quickly learn Aquatics Division policies and procedures;

    + Thorough knowledge of or ability to quickly learn proper aquatic teaching techniques in all levels of age and ability;

    + Thorough knowledge of pool water chemistry and proper use of chemicals;

    + Thorough knowledge of risk management;

    + Thorough knowledge of water filtration and sanitation;

    + Ability to perform basic First Aid and CPR;

    + Ability to use tact and discretion in dealing with the general public;

    + Ability to supervise, train, and direct the work of others;

    + Ability to establish and enforce rules and regulations firmly and with tact;

    + Ability to use power and hand tools for basic repairs and maintenance;

    + Ability to instruct individuals in lifeguarding and water safety in accordance with American Red Cross guidelines and to obtain instructor certifications;

    + Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language;

    + Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions;

    + Ability to prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations;

    + Ability to operate or quickly learn to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks;

    + Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions;

    + Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines;

    + Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology;

    + Ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks;

    + Consistently performs assignments in accordance with the City’s Core Values of Integrity, Leadership, Service and Teamwork.

     

    Required Special Qualifications

     

    + Must possess a valid driver’s license and obtain a valid Montana Class D Driver’s License within 60 days of employment;

    + Must possess, have previously held, and be able to obtain and maintain certifications in the following:

    + Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers and First Aid;

    + Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification with one (1) year of employment.

    + Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain Certified Pool Operator’s License or Aquatic Facility Operator’s License certification within one (1) year of employment.
