    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Infection Preventionist is under the supervision of the Executive Director of Quality and Compliance. Infection preventionist evaluates quality of care and patient outcomes as they relate to health care associated infections; collects, prepares, and analyzes healthcare associated infection data; presents infection data and makes recommendations for actions; monitors employee compliance and use of barriers and infection prevention measures; prepares and presents educational offerings for the staff; serves as a resource to all departments and personnel; implements programs to protect the health care workers, visitors, and others in the healthcare environment; sets and recommends policies and procedures to prevent adverse events; provides internal and external reporting of information and data; promotes compliance with regulations, guidelines, and accreditation requirements. The Infection Preventionist implements programs to protect WhidbeyHealth patients.

     

    The Infection Preventionist will largely handle all routine communication internally and externally to ensure dissemination of information in a timely fashion to ensure all required timelines are met and expectations identified to all customers.

    EDUCATION

    + Active WA State RN License or Active Multistate License (MSL) or a certified Medical Technologist, either MLS (ASCP) or MLT (ASCP).

    + MSL Requirements:

    + Approved 6-Hour Suicide Prevention Training Course Completion

    + Screenshot of submitted demographic data using the Washington State Multistate Nurse Demographic Data Survey.

    + Health/Science related Bachelors degree.

    + Completion of a basic training program for infection prevention and control (EPI 101 & 102)

    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

    + + Prior hospital experience preferred.

    + Minimum two (2) years of infection prevention and control experience preferred.

    + Identification of infectious disease processes.

    + Surveillance and epidemiologic investigation.

    + Preventing/controlling the transmission of infectious agents.

    + Leadership and program management.

    + Performance improvement and implementation science.

    + Proficiency at the intermediate level of Microsoft Office.

    + Previous training and/or experience with DNV/CMS standard, mock surveys/surveillance, and accreditation surveys.

    + Knowledge of office management systems and procedures.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

    + Significant comfort level and efficiency in Excel and spreadsheet manipulation.

    + Must be able to communicate clearly, personable, and welcoming with the Quality Department, Leadership Team, and to WhidbeyHealth healthcare workers.

    + Motivated self-starter with initiative to take independent action while maintaining excellent communication with department.

    + Ability to self-regulate in difficult or intense conversations. Experience with Crucial Conversations preferred.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

    + Certification in Infection Control is preferred upon hire and is required within two (2) years.
