    As an Automation Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our facility meets both internal and external customer demands safely and efficiently. You will foster a continuous improvement mindset, collaborating with site and satellite teams to meet and exceed their goals. Your expertise in automation and engineering principles will be essential in optimizing processes through data capture and analysis, ultimately contributing to the profitability of our plant.

     

    **Key Responsibilities:** ---

    + **Support Continuous Improvement Initiatives:** -Collaborate with site and satellite teams to plan, execute, and coach team members in achieving operational objectives and enhancing overall efficiency.

    + **Design and Develop Control Systems:** -Provide input for the design and development of new process control systems, ensuring alignment with CertainTeed’s continuous improvement (CI) projects.

    + **Implement PLC-Based Control Systems:** -Lead the implementation and support of PLC-based control systems, ensuring they meet operational requirements and enhance process reliability.

    + **Utilize SCADA Systems:** -Support and utilize PC-based supervisory control systems/SCADA to prepare and coordinate operational information and data for plant management and project teams.

    + **Manage Automation Projects:** -Plan, evaluate, organize, and implement automation-related projects and initiatives, exercising independent judgment within established policies and procedures.

    + **Develop Standard Operating Procedures:** -Create and maintain standard operating procedures, work instructions, and P&ID diagrams as part of new equipment and process changes.

    + **Analyze and Resolve Operating Problems:** -Use advanced PLC and control systems to reduce process variations, collaborating with process and production engineers to develop and implement corrective actions.

    + **Provide Project Status Reports:** -Deliver weekly status reports of ongoing projects to Plant Management, ensuring transparency and alignment with operational goals.

    + **Consult with Other Plants:** -Collaborate with and assist other CertainTeed Gypsum North American plants on automation-related issues as needed.

    + **Educational Background:** -Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

    + **Experience:** -A minimum of five years of applied professional experience in industrial troubleshooting, design, and installation of PC-based supervisory and PLC-based control systems, as well as power distribution and wiring.

    + **Hands-On Expertise:** -At least five years of hands-on experience on the manufacturing floor, with a strong background in industrial electrical applications.

    + **Problem-Solving Skills:** -Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop solutions and lead the implementation of corrective actions from a controls standpoint.

    + **Team Player:** -Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external vendors.
