Essential Job Duties:
The Safety Specialist supports the Facilities Division by promoting workplace safety, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. This role works collaboratively with internal teams, Environmental Health & Safety ( EHS ), and external stakeholders to identify risks, implement solutions, and maintain a safe working environment across a wide range of facilities operations.
This temporary position requires strong knowledge of occupational safety practices, the ability to work independently, and well-developed problem-solving skills, particularly in environments where established safety guidance may not exist.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Support the implementation and maintenance of the Facilities Occupational Safety Program.
Monitor workplace conditions, identify hazards, and recommend corrective actions.
Conduct and participate in safety audits, incident investigations, and mishap reviews.
Provide safety onboarding, guidance, and training to employees and contractors.
Review departmental safety practices, identify weaknesses, and recommend improvements.
Partner with EHS and departmental leaders to address compliance issues and implement corrective measures.
Track, maintain, and analyze safety documentation, records, and compliance metrics.
Assist with safety-related communications and the development of training materials.
Support project management activities related to safety initiatives and compliance programs.
Advise employees on safety laws, regulations, and organizational policies with limited supervision.
Ability to develop solutions for unique safety challenges where established standards or practices may not exist.
Strong knowledge of safety protocols in research and technical environments, including emerging technologies.
Capable of inspecting and evaluating safety devices, machinery, and equipment in multiple program areas.
Skilled in calibrating equipment to standards and performing minor repairs.
Ability to operate equipment used in the disposal, storage, or transport of hazardous and/or radiological waste in compliance with federal regulations.
Maintain detailed logs, records, and reports to support compliance and continuous safety improvement.
Required Qualifications:
+ Comfortable presenting safety protocols in meetings and training
+ Able to work across multiple teams and with external vendors
+ Experience assisting or leading project tracking and documentation
Preferred Qualifications:
+ 3–5 years in construction safety or related field
+ Relevant certifications in safety
