    The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC Behavioral Community Shared Resources has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Research Support Specialist to work onsite at the UHealth medical campus in Miami, FL.

     

    CORE JOB SUMMARY The Research Support Specialist performs a variety of duties involved in the collection, compilation, and documentation of research data related to the assigned research studies. The incumbent also assists with the implementation of daily study activities and provides statistical support to these activities. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

     

    + Researches, collects, analyzes, and synthesizes data and maintains databases.

    + Conducts quality assurance checks, reports on the status of research activities, and submits monthly

    + Organizes and coordinates community working group meetings for protocol activities.

    + Serves as primary point of contact for community partners and supervises and oversees research data

    + Reviews study progress, identifies areas of opportunity, and recommends solutions.

    + Prepares and updates study research procedures manual.

    + Assists with the preparation of grant proposals by processing regulatory documents for all institutions and offices involved.

    + Contributes to the publication and presentation of significant results and writes and edits material for publication and presentation.

    + Maintains research files and responds to phone calls on the research study phone line.

    + Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

    Department Specific FunctionsThe Research Support Specialist is a key member of the Behavioral Community-Based Research Shared Resource (BCSR) team. This position provides comprehensive support for both research and administrative functions to facilitate the efficient and effective execution of behavioral health and community-based research studies. The incumbent plays a pivotal role in implementing study protocols, coordinating participant interactions, supporting data collection and management, and ensuring compliance with all institutional and regulatory requirements. This role requires a high level of professionalism, organization, and cultural competency, as the Research Support Specialist will often be the primary point of contact with study participants and external partners. The successful candidate will be adaptable, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently while supporting multiple concurrent research projects.Key ResponsibilitiesResearch Coordination and Implementation• Collaborates with Principal Investigators and Senior Research Associates to develop and implement patient/participant screening procedures tailored to individual study protocols.• Collects and records research data from multiple sources, including patient charts, medical records, diagnostic tests, structured interviews, and standardized questionnaires.• Ensures accurate and timely data entry into research databases; monitors and maintains data integrity and consistency across systems.• Conducts informed consent processes with study participants in compliance with IRB protocols, ensuring ethical standards and thorough documentation. Consent may be obtained in English, Spanish, or Creole depending on the participant population.• If certified/trained in phlebotomy, performs venipuncture and collects biological specimens in accordance with study protocols.• Collects, processes, packs, and ships specimens (blood, saliva, urine, fecal, etc.) according to protocol, applicable standards and regulations, and coordinates with appropriate laboratories for drop off and storage.• Provides research support across multiple protocols and assists Senior Research Associates and other team members with data collection, participant follow-up, and project-related tasks.Participant & Stakeholder Communication• Serves as a liaison between study participants, healthcare providers, community partners, and study sponsors, maintaining professional and respectful communication at all times.• Coordinates participant outreach, appointment scheduling, and follow-ups. Maintains up-to-date contact lists and communication logs.• Ensures a culturally sensitive and inclusive approach when engaging with participants from diverse backgrounds.Administrative & Operational Support• Maintains organized records of study documentation, including consent forms, sponsor correspondence, regulatory files, and study logs.• Tracks participant enrollment and study progress; prepares regular progress reports and monthly enrollment summaries for internal and external stakeholders.• Manages project calendars, schedules meetings, and records detailed meeting minutes when needed.• Supports administrative functions such as time accounting, billing, procurement of office and project supplies, and other logistical needs.Data Management & Reporting• Assists in the development, management, and maintenance of research databases (e.g., REDCap, Excel, Ripple, Velos, Sharepoint, etc).• Conducts data cleaning, verification, and quality assurance tasks to ensure accurate and complete datasets for analysis.• Prepares summaries, charts, and basic descriptive statistics to support project reporting and grant submissions.• Assists senior level researchers with qualitative data analysis using rapid analysis techniques and NVivo.Preferred Qualifications & Skills Required:

     

    + Bachelor’s degree in public health, psychology, social work, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

    + Strong command of the English language (oral and written).

    + Experience working with diverse populations in a community, clinic, or research setting.

    + Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

    + Ability to multitask and manage multiple research protocols simultaneously.

    + Willingness to travel and adapt to a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends if needed.

    + Fluency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole.

    + Certification in phlebotomy and experience in specimen collection.

    + Experience with research databases such as REDCap, Qualtrics, or NVivo.

    + Prior experience working in academic or healthcare-based research environments.

    + Knowledge of medical terminology.

    Working Conditions

    + Position may require work at multiple research sites within the community.

    + Some evening and weekend hours may be required based on study needs.

    + Occasional lifting or moving of study supplies and materials may be necessary.
