    Summary These positions are located in the Maintenance Division of Yellowstone National Park. Positions are permanent full-time and permanent Career-Seasonal. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately February to mid-January in pay status, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year. Responsibilities Utility Systems Repairer-Operators (USRO's) at this level of water and wastewater systems, including treatment, distribution and collections systems. They assist with the activation, operation, maintenance and deactivation of lift stations, dump stations, buildings, comfort stations and ancillary equipment. They read meters and check monitoring devices, pressure switches, gauges, pumps, motors and trouble shoot and reset switches and breakers. USRO's assist with the collection and processing of water samples in the operation of a state certified lab performing bacteriological analysis following Quality Assurance/Quality Control requirements. They assist in sewage pumping operations, scheduled and emergency water and wastewater system repairs. One position will be located in the Lake Village community of Yellowstone National Park. The approximate elevation is 7,700 feet with an average temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer to sub-zero in winter. During the winter months, the snow accumulation on the ground averages 30-inches. During the time period of November - April, the interior park roads are closed to wheeled vehicle traffic and only accessible via snow machine. The closest neighboring communities for year around amenities are Cody Wyoming (64 miles - 2.5 hours via snow machine) and Jackson Wyoming (98 miles - 4 hours via snow machine) During the summer months Lake community facilities include a store, medical clinic, motels, and a restaurant. All other services are available at Cody or Jackson Wyoming. Housing is available for this position. One position will be located in the West District of Yellowstone National Park, including West Yellowstone MT, Madison Junction WY, and Old Faithful, WY. The nearest developed town is in West Yellowstone, along with a medical clinic, year-round post office, grocery stores, and a K-12 school. Elevation is approximately 7,000-7,700 feet above sea level, and temperatures can range from -30 degrees Fahrenheit in winter, to 80 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer. Old Faithful has lodging available in the summer and winter seasons, a summertime medical clinic and post office, as well as general stores. Winter accessibility is limited to snowmobile use and roads are groomed nightly. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. Must obtain Wyoming DEQ Level 1 Water and Wastewater certifications within 6 months of Entrance on Duty. Must obtain Wyoming DEQ Level 2 Water and Wastewater certifications within 18 months of Entrance on Duty. You may be required to travel overnight away from home. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of A Utility Systems Repairer Operator Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT). Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Knowledge of materials Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. A Relocation Incentive May Be Authorized for a Federal employee when the employee must move, as directed by the National Park Service (NPS) either through a management directed reassignment or selection for employment, to a different location at least 50 miles away from the one where his/her position of record held at time of selection is currently located, due to a need of the NPS. A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another. Physical Demands: The physical effort may be from light to heavy. The Operator may frequently lift 50 pounds and at times will lift or move materials heavier than 100 pounds with the help of other personnel or with the use of materials handling equipment. Work performed on the trans-Canyon pipeline and on the North Rim water supply line will require flying, hiking, climbing, hanging by ropes and restraint lines, manual excavation of dirt and rock, and use of industrial power equipment to make repairs to these pipelines' wider conditions of extreme heat and other desert conditions. Work may require hiking long distances on steep trails in high heat conditions to arrive and to depart the assigned duty station or remote site and will be required hiking to and from the pumping stations within the Inner canyon. Working Conditions: Work will be both inside of facilities and buildings and outside in temperatures that can range from 100 degrees F during the summer and up to -10 degrees F in the winter. Exposure to rain, sleet, and snow can occur. Work in the Inner canyon of the Grand Canyon National Park is conducted in a desert environment with exposure to temperatures that can exceed 120 degrees F in the summer. The Operator is subject to recall and may be called out at any time of the day or night to respond to system failures and ta other emergencies as the situation might dictate. The Operator may be exposed to Insect bites, bruises, cuts, falls, bums, and scrapes. The operator will be exposed to raw and treated sewage, moving machinery and chemical feed systems, and equipment typical of work performed in the water/wastewater Industry.
