    Job Summary

    Counseling & Psychological Services is seeking one Coordinator of Latinx Student Mental Health and Wellness. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.

    CAPS is committed to providing a range of culturally responsive services to help students succeed. These services are designed to help students understand themselves better, create and maintain satisfying relationships, improve their academic performance, foster resilience, and make healthy and satisfying career and life choices. We do this by providing consultation, single session interventions, psychoeducation, web-based support, crisis support during business hours, group counseling, and brief individual counseling when indicated. Additionally, if longer-term care is needed we will make referrals to health care providers in the community.

     

    The primary purpose of this position is to support the success of Latinx student mental health and wellness at OSU through the provision of clinical services, consultation, outreach, programming, and advocacy. The Coordinator of Latinx Student Mental Health and Wellness is a 12-month full-time position that reports to a member of the CAPS senior leadership team (which includes the Executive Director, Senior Director of Clinical Services, Director of Training, and Director of Mental Health Promotion). This work must be informed by a thorough and nuanced understanding of the unique lived experiences of Latinx students. The creation of this position is a part of CAPS’ ongoing commitment to centering the needs of underserved student populations in our community.

     

    As a member of the CAPS team, the Coordinator of Latinx Student Mental Health and Wellness also provides clinical services to the general OSU student population and may also provide training to CAPS’ doctoral interns and practicum trainees.

    Key Responsibilities

    60% DIRECT SERVICE

    + 35% Individual and Relationship Counseling: Provide identity-informed individual (including single session) counseling to students, with focus of clinical service provision being to support Latinx students. This includes appropriate assessment methods and brief treatment commensurate with current standards of the profession.

    + 5% Group Counseling: Provide identity-informed group counseling that centers the needs of Latinx students. This includes appropriate assessment methods and brief time-sensitive treatment, commensurate with current standards of the profession.

    + 15% Outreach & Training: Foster strong professional relationships with OSU staff and programs who focus on serving Latinx students (e.g., Centro Cultural César Chávez cultural center, Educational Opportunities Program). Provide workshops, outreach, programs, liaison, grant writing, and teaching activities which explicitly center the care and holistic wellness of Latinx students. Provide training and supervision for interns and practicum students, such as co-leading therapy groups, teaching seminars, providing rotation training in area of expertise, and providing individual clinical supervision (there is an expectation that all staff contribute to the training program in some capacity).

    + 5% Crisis/On Call, and Consultation: Provide culturally responsive crisis/on call interventions during business hours. Consult with all members of the OSU community and CAPS staff regarding mental health needs of students (with a focus on helping the OSU community better understand and support the mental health needs of Latinx students).

    40% INDIRECT SERVICE

    + Other Assigned Duties: Note-writing and management of e-mail and telephone correspondence; attend and participate in regular staff meetings, in-service training activities, and case conferences; serve on CAPS and campus committees; maintain and promote the highest ethical and professional standards commensurate with training and licensure; pursue professional development in service of the responsibilities of the position and the profession.

    What You Will Need

    + Masters of Social Work, Masters of Counseling, Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy, Doctorate in Psychology, or similar degree from a counseling/clinical accredited program.

    + Eligible for licensure as LPC , LMSW , LCSW , LMFT , or doctorate in clinical/counseling psychology in the state of Oregon within 2 years of employment.

    + Experience providing counseling/mental health services to Latinx clients.

    + Ability to clearly communicate & apply to practice knowledge of the mental health impacts of systemic racism on Latinx people.

    + Strong commitment and demonstrated ability to enact principles of social justice; navigate layers of identity experienced by Latinx students, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, ability, religion, class, and nationality.

    + Experience providing outreach programming focused on the holistic mental health needs of Latinx people.

    + Demonstrated ability to build trust and form community.

    + Understanding of, or experience providing brief therapeutic interventions.

    + Experience balancing multiple simultaneous demands in a fast-paced work environment.

     

    This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

    What We Would Like You to Have

    + Currently licensed as LPC , LMSW , LCSW , LMFT , or doctorate in clinical/counseling psychology.

    + Two years of post-graduate professional counseling experience.

    + Experience consulting/liaising with campus and/or community partners serving Latinx populations.

    + Fluent in Spanish or Portuguese.

    + Experience providing group therapy.

    + Experience providing crisis assessment and support services for high-risk clients. This could include self-injurious behavior, suicide prevention, and homicide prevention.

     

    Working Conditions / Work Schedule

     

    Work hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm; Occasional after-hours meetings and/or weekend work may be required; Flexible work schedule may also be possible.
